If you're planning on voting in the contest, you need to be a registered forum user. To be a fully registered user, you need to make at least one post on the day you sign up (it's a spam prevention measure). So feel free to make that post here.
And if you're already a forum user, but plan on participating in the contest, feel free to post here too and introduce yourself. If you're submitting a story, feel free to say so, just don't describe it.

Hello! *waves*
I'm a fan of Podcastle and Pseudopod, and I submitted a flash piece for the competition. ;D
-
I submitted a story too! I'm excited to see what everyone thinks and to read the other stories!
-
Me fail English? That unpossible!
-
Hello.
-
Just sent my story in :) I think this is my third EA contest now? Can't wait for the fun of reading the submissions.
-
My story is in. This will be my first time ever as a submitter. I've run a contest and voted, but this time I managed an entry!
I am really looking forward to this, although it is nerve-wracking.
-
I'm baaaaaaaack!
-
This is so exciting! I can't wait to read all the stories.
-
Hello! I have no hope for my flash, but I got into this forum for the flash contest and I've met so many amazing people, so I had to write something.
So many good things can come out of this contest if you put some time and energy into it. Good writing and good reading, folks!
-
Can't wait to read everyone's stories! Feeling pretty good about the piece I submitted for this one! :)
-
Hello. :) I've submitted, and am looking forward to reading what everyone has written.
-
Hi everybody! Can't wait to read the flash fictions!
-
Happy Wednesday
-
It's almost time, it's almost time!
Stiff competition this time around...I've heard from lots of good writers who have submitted (some of them already here in this thread!). Looking forward to voting!
-
Is it July yet? Is it July yet? Is it July yet? <-- my brain right now.
Can you tell I can't wait to read all your stories? :D
-
Is it July yet? Is it July yet? Is it July yet? <-- my brain right now.
Can you tell I can't wait to read all your stories? :D
You have a slight advantage over us 'Mericans. It's July 5 hours earlier for you than me! (Although Graeme, Aidan and the rest of the 'Stralians' are even mre futuristic.)
-
Greetings fellow sentients! I have submitted a story and am excited to read everyone else's!
-
Howdy folks! I'm in. Can't wait to start reading. These are always fun. Good luck to all.
-
Looking forward to publicly commenting along with the contest this year!
---Marguerite
-
Good luck to all. Really looking forward to reading everyone's submissions.
-
Get ready folks! There are currently over 120 entries, and more are still flooding in here in the final hours before Friday night's deadline.
It will take me a couple of days to finish formatting all the stories for the forums, and arranging them into groups. But sometime after the 4th of July we'll be voting on which stories should be purchased and run on Podcastle!
-
Thanks Ocicat!!!
-
Hi, everybody! Making my requisite post to participate in the voting! So...[Looks right, then left] Whatcha'all do for fun 'round here?
-
Where did the month go!? I was sure I had plenty of time to work on my story and now... Well... At least I can read everyone else's submissions :(
-
Hello! I've joined the forum just now so I can submit my story but I've been a regular listener for a couple years. I love the Podcastle and its delightful friends. This contest was a good opportunity to get back into fiction writing and I'm really glad I took it. I'm looking forward to reading other people's submissions. Good luck to everyone!
About me: I'm a 20-something game programmer from Scotland. I like tea, but not coffee.

You have some time! Sharpen that pencil, and get writing :)
welcome everybody!
-
Hi, all. I'm Wendy. I'm here for the contest!

Hi everyone! It's been a long time. I was a regular in these parts several years ago, but have taken the last few years off for school. (I started my last class EVAR last week. Almost there...) Good to see some old familiar faces--Benjaminjb, Schrodingrr, danooli--and many new ones.
I've submitted to many of the previous flash contests, and even got into the finals in one. I'm very excited about my story this time, and eagerly await everyone's brutal, soul-crushing critiques. ;) These contests can be harsh, but they're so much fun to participate in. Good luck everyone!
-
Hello! I'm Kelsey. I'm going to try to participate on the forum this year since I submitted something. :)
-
I've just submitted a story!

Hi everyone! It's been a long time.
Welcome home, Cutter! Glad to see you back, and best of luck with your last class!
-

Alas, it doesn't mean we Aussies get to read the stories sooner. We have to wait until it is July in Yank-land instead.
On the plus side, though, it gives us a little more time to finish off and polish our own stories (says he who is having a go at this story writing business for the first time).
-
No no no...you're in the future! ! :)
-
Got one in. Struggled to think of a story, then promptly wrote myself into a corner. Ended up stuck there for a couple weeks, was getting increasingly worried I'd squander this opportunity to get writing feedback!
Finally, while sitting in a dark hotel room in Tijuana a couple days ago, the answer came to me and I finished up. As always, my first draft went a couple hundred words over the limit and as usual, they were all gooooooold but I somehow managed to make it work. I mean word-count-wise, not necessarily that it's a good story. But it's 500 DAMN WORDS, who needs definitive articles, pronouns, and verbs anyhow? Crutches, the lot of them!
-
Hey all, just signed up and wanted to make sure I was completely registered.
-
*waves* Hello hello!
I've submitted this year, even.
-
Hello everyone!
I will be submitting my story later today.
-
(https://cdn.meme.am/cache/instances/folder735/66333735.jpg)
Good to see some old familiar faces--Benjaminjb, Schrodingrr, danooli--and many new ones.
Cutter! Good to see you again too! Your critiques are always spot-on. :)
Also jazzed to see sooo many new people joining the forum for this one! Big welcome to all the new faces. Looks like the contest this time around is going to be huge. Looking forward to spending the next few weeks making some really difficult voting decisions...
-
Hi everybody! Can't wait to read the flash fictions!
CHRISTI! Did you submit a story?
-
I'm making that post now. It's me, I'm making the post. Long time listener, first time caller.
-
Hello! I submitted and I'm looking forward to reading through the other entries. :D
-
Hi, everyone. New here. Looking forward to reading.
-
Subbed!
-
Hello, I am new here. I have also submitted a flash fiction for this contest type deal.
Dang though! Over 120 entries!
-
Dang though! Over 120 entries!
Plus the 60 or that came in today. :o
-
Good luck everyone!

Wow, Ocicat! That's a lot of stories.
-
Hello there... I have also submitted a story... So excited to be part of this :)
-

Is that a new record??!?!
-Marguerite
-
Fun! I'd never realized there was an active forum here. I guess this is my obligatory post.
-
I haven't gone through all of them to make sure they all qualify yet, but right now it looks like 196 entries. That is a record number of authors participating in any EA contest. These contests used to allow two entries per author, and even then it's more stories than either of the two previous Podcastle contests. I believe only two EA contests had more stores: the first one, back when only Escape Pod existed, and Contest IV: Pseudopod, which got 212 and is why we now limit to one submission per author.
-
:o :o :o
(Apparently this forum doesn't like Unicode emoji.)
-
Hello!
I was drawn here by danooli's dedicated Twitter publicity. Looking forward to reading the stories!
-
Hello all! I am Stewart C Baker, author and other things. I have entered the contest and look forward to reading the others. :)
-
Well, this is me saying hello! Also -- when can we expect to see the stories?
Thanks!

Holy wow
-
It warms my cold, ossified, stored-in-a-box heart to see so many new names and so many old names here!
Cutter, how have you been?
(The worst part about the stories being anonymous for so long is I never successfully sync up stories to names, so I have no idea who wrote the stories I loved most. But I can't wait to read these stories!)
-
Hi everyone!
I entered this contest shortly after it opened! I'm a newbie writer though, and I didn't quite grasp that there was a forum and voting :o (don't worry, I did follow the other instructions closely!!) So does every story that was entered get posted here, or is there a shortlist?
Good to meet people here -- best of luck all, and I look forward to diving into these 500-word gems. :)
-
So does every story that was entered get posted here, or is there a shortlist?
They'll appear in batches - you can still have a look at past contests for examples.
-
it looks like 196 entries
SWEET CHRISTMAS.
-
oops. forgot to make my OP, so I had to reregister.

cool.
-
Hi. I submitted a story. Am looking forward to reading everyone else's. :)
-
Hello hello! Brand new to the forums! I've submitted. Hope it qualifies, it's slightly under 500 words.
-
Squeeeee it's July 1st!! Happy Canada Day and happy reading/posting/voting/allthething-ing

Thanks! So interesting to look at the past contests!

CHRISTI! Did you submit a story?
Of course I did!
-
Hi, good luck everyone!
-
Hello hello! Brand new to the forums! I've submitted. Hope it qualifies, it's slightly under 500 words.
Everything that was submitted to the contest and was 500 words or under "qualified" for the contest. And if there was a problem, you would have gotten an email. But there are 196 stories, and only the 50 or so that you voters like best will survive to the second round. Only 3 win! Though admittedly, the editors may end up buying more than the three stories voters select...

Hello! I registered a few days ago but when I tried to login today, it said I didn't exist :o But now I've seen this thread so I'm wondering if perhaps I disappeared because I didn't post? Anyway, here I am! I have a story in the contest! :D Good luck everyone!

That's it precisely! If you register, but don't post that day, the account gets purged. This is to combat bots. (Well, the ones we don't invite for Escape Pod, at least.)

This'll be fun.

I know that has been stated as a rule, but I created my account on June 6, and didn't post until June 21. Maybe I was a fluke?
Either way, I am really looking forward to this competition.

Everything that was submitted to the contest and was 500 words or under "qualified" for the contest.
Thank you. Even though the rules said the limit was 500 words, some of the posts here made me think that 500 words exactly was the requirement.

I imagine it's just shorthand. This isn't like a drabble, which is defined as exactly 100 words.

I submitted to this contest. Look forward to reading everyone's stories!

I'm sure I didn't get a message or anything to warn me about this, though? If I hadn't read Ocicat's post here I would never have realised what was going on. Does it say somewhere that you have to post? Did I miss it? :)
-
First time submitting, look forward to reading all of them ^^

Interestingly, the shortest piece we got is exactly 100 words. So I guess when voting starts see if you can spot the drabble!

Cutter! Good to see you again too! Your critiques are always spot-on. :)
Aww, thanks Schrodingrr. You sure know how to make a guy feel welcome at home. ;D
Cutter, how have you been?
I'm good, Ben. Busy. You know, work, school, wife 'n kids, getting ready to move, job hunting, entering a flash fiction contest that I have no time for... the usual. What's new with you?
And you're right, there are a LOT of new faces this time around, which is exciting. Anyone know if any of the other old-timers are playing along this time? Listener, FireTurtle, MCWagner, etc? (I know Varda and JKJones did not get stories ready in time, but they're moving cross-country, so it's understandable.)
-

I'm back this year. I haven't entered since the first Podcastle competition in 2010 (I got third!). Too much going on during the last two. My posting rate on the forums have dropped over the years, but I'm still here :)
-
Hello writers, readers, and listeners! I love listening to the escape artists podcasts while I'm making dinner. At first I was afraid the quality of my meals would go down, being distracted and all, but it hasn't. I mean, I've burnt a few meals and my kid swears she found a half-drowned fairy and the remains of crashed spacecraft in the soup once, but she's probably just exaggerating. Kids and their crazy imaginations.

Got my story in with only a few days to go. Dealing with a toddler has wrecked my usual uber-early timeline. ;D
-
Anyone know if any of the other old-timers are playing along this time?
I know Dagny has also submitted a piece, so yeah. Plenty of stiff competition this time around. Finals are gonna be brutal! ;D
-
Ha, oh, I am not planning on making it far this time around. (I think I've made it through the first rounds most time, but my favorite part is (a) reading the stories that are so amazing and do things I never even thought you could do with flash and (b) talking about the backstories behind the stories.)
Wait, Cutter, did you have a wife and child last time you were in the mix here? Because I just recently changed my status from "committed relationship" to "married with kid" and gah! why did no one warn me about children?
-
Hello everyone
I'm Nyssa,
I babble, I may have submitted but I'm not sure if I made a post in time.

Cool. I'm a newbie, so it's good to know I'm up against the best and the bravest as well the largest pool of noble competitors in recent digital history. ^_^
-
Wait, Cutter, did you have a wife and child last time you were in the mix here? Because I just recently changed my status from "committed relationship" to "married with kid" and gah! why did no one warn me about children?
Hehe, yeah, last time I was active around here, which was about two years ago, I had two kids. Now we've got three, (the new one is eight months old), and yes, they are a handful. But they're so much fun, too. I've already instilled quite a few fandoms in them. The daughter, who is ten, loves Harry Potter, and is halfway through the series. The boy, who is six, is obsessed with Legos, Star Wars, and of course, Lego Star Wars. It's so much fun to introduce them to all the "cool" stuff. ;)
-
I'm in too. I submitted to this contest once before, and loved the comments. Alas, I didn't win. So excited to participate again, and happy to see some familiar names on this forum. Good luck, everyone, and let the reading begin!

Look forward to reading your work.

The deadline to submit was 7/1, but Ocicat, the gentle and noble Ocicat, wrote that there were a record of 196 stories entered. Each entry takes a bit of work to format properly for posting to the forums and he has to first figure out how many stories to put in each group (impossible to do until the very end of the end of subs window) then randomly assign each to a group.
The first group of 12 - 13 stories goes live 7/5/17 :)
-
hello
Hey, I know you! ;)
-
Hey guys, I'm one of those 196, and I got my brother to submit too. Looking forward to reading your stuff and seeing what you think of ours.
-
Hello,
Nice community you have here, I'm new to the forums but have enjoyed Escape Pod for a few years now. Submitted a story for the Pod Castle contest.
p.s. I'm Poisonwaters brother.

Hi.
-
Hello everyone! Best of luck to all the authors!
-
I was sure I had already created a profile and left a message to activate it.
Pretty sure.
Yet here I am registering again. Hi there. Looking forward to the stories, except the one I submitted, which I already know too well.
-
Hello there,
I submitted a flash piece for the contest. I'm looking forward to doing this.
Best regards,

Now let's see how many of these stories I can read before my brain explodes with the awesomeness
;D

This is a post!
But seriously, good luck to everyone in the contest!

Hi there! *waves*
Hello! Are you the Faye I think you are?
-
Hello!
I've been listening to Pseudopod, Podcastle and Escape Pod for over a year and am finally on the forums.
I wanted to make an entry for the contest, but didn't get the time to finish it until today sadly.
But hey, I finally finished a story!
-
Hello all!
Looking forward to reading all the entries, good luck to everyone that's entered.
-
Hello!

Hi everyone!

-
Hello friends
-
Hey, folks! :)
I'm still not sure I've nailed this 500 word format yet. I so often end up with five thousand words instead.
Still, I love the reading and voting, so I'll be off to get stuck into that now :D
-
hello! Feel daunted by the total number of stories, but looking forward to plunging in
-
Hi! I am new here and look forward to reading everyone's entries!
-
Hello! Just getting around to making account and posting now. Excited to get started!

This should be great, looking forward to reading a lot of stories!

Posting so that I can exist. I post, therefore I am. Looking forward to reading.
-
Hi! Here for the contest and to possibly make future comments on all of the stories that impress me on a weekly basis because Escape Artists is Awesome.
-
Hello. Doing a nosy.
-
A mildly belated hello & salutations. Am looking forward to reading everyone's stories!
-
Spam filter fake out successful.
Enjoyed Escape Artists podcasts for the last year, decided to submit a story. Keep up the good work.
-
Hi all! I'm looking forward to reading everyone's no doubt excellent entries for the contest!
-
*waving*
Hi!
I've posted a few times before. Submitted a story, can't wait to vote!
(I missed out on group 1 because I was on vacay.)

Well, hello there.

Better late than never...hi everyone!

Always welcome! You don't need to have voted in the early groups to vote in the current ones. And when the Semis come around you'll get to read the best of the groups you missed.
-
Hi guys! I submitted a story, too. Excited to see what other awesome flash got submitted. :)
-
Checking in very belatedly!!
-
Can I just say that I'm loving learning about the magical critters associated with each group :D This being my first flash fiction contest, I've decided that if I make it to the semifinals, I will have whatever creature I am grouped in tattooed somewhere on me... any excuse for new ink, LOL ;D
-
Hi,
Just introducing myself. My name is NOT Justin T. Chan. :P

I've decided that if I make it to the semifinals, I will have whatever creature I am grouped in tattooed somewhere on me
That's a cool idea! :D

Hello, everyone! Big fan of Escape Artists, interested in seeing how this contest unfolds.

Hello [Escape Artist] World!
Just now checking in on the contest. This whole thing is new to me and when entries closed, the Submittable page went away. I relied upon the kindness of strangers to get me here. I hope it's going well. I look forward to reading a lot of flash!

Always glad when people come in in the latter stages of the contest, makes up for the authors who stop voting after their story is eliminated and such.

Hello!

I am new here and cannot wait to take part in the voting!

Oh good I was looking for a thread where it wouldn't be weird to comment! As a horror/sort of sci-fi podcaster myself I'm looking forward to reading some good good fiction.

Hello.

Greetings, all.

Dying to read everyone's flash. Keep it creepy!

Hello to the folks who jumped in for the Pseudopod contest. The Podcastle contest is currently in the semifinal round and has lost some voters. A few of the races are neck and neck. You are welcome to read and vote in this contest too. And good luck in the next one!

I know I was near the end and there were a lot of stories but I think entering the contest one should make at least a vote per group.
