Title: Poetry
Post by: petronivs on April 30, 2018, 03:11:37 PM
I noticed that Escape Pod's submission requirements state that poems are not accepted.  Is there a particular reason EP chose to make this rule, or is an arbitrary style guideline that Escape Pod just doesn't do poetry?

I would think that, given the spoken format that Escape Artists uses, good narrative poems could be suitable candidates for consideration.

Not speaking for Escape Pod, but poetry requires a different skillset to edit than prose. As is acquiring poetry reading from story narration.

FWIW, outside of these, Escape Pod also doesn't accept flash fiction (outside the traditional flash fiction contest). So I suspect length is another consideration.

100% agree with Fenrix. We're trying to stick to the "one story, well told," philosophy that Escape Pod was founded on.

Poetry and spoken-word are great content for podcasts, but they aren't right for ours at the moment.
