Title: Reconnecting with my right-brain
Post by: DDog on October 13, 2007, 11:45:12 PM
Just finished two soul-crushing Java and assembly language projects in about 18 hours straight and will have at least three more for each before the semester's over, so I'm hoping the attempt to keep up with my own writing will balance me out a little.

Experiments
Sometimes I have cool ideas, but am I really going to follow through on them?

Modern context permutation of Ancient Egyptian gods and Their stories
---Status: Mostly floating around my head, some notes, possible candidate for NaNoWriMo, haven't decided on novel or themed collection of stories

"Maiden-Mother-Crone story"
---Status: progress at two different points (about two single-space typed pages total), some notes and ideas,

National Novel Writing Month
---Status: not started (duh), couple of ideas, not sure if I'll really have time but I want to try it anyway

Something dealing with gender and transsexuality
---Status: desire to write, no concrete ideas

Something in the "world is a simulation" arena
---Status: desire to write, no concrete ideas

Musical about my friend's life
---Status: four or five songs seeded, can I really write a musical?

Works in Progress
I've started it, it's a good idea, and I'm going to finish it, damn it!

"Phish fan" poem
---Status: beginning and end written, performance effects known, overarching concept known, bulk in between needs to be written

"Tobacco shop story"
---Status: have a concept, wrote a page or two in response that may need to be tossed or transmuted elsewhere since it didn't really follow my original plan

Lexicon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexicon_(game)) game
---Status: original game was supposed to run the length of June but I couldn't keep up and only finished 9 entries, everyone else gave up too, I want to write the rest of my entries just for the hell of it and maybe it will inspire others to finish

"Complete"
I've reached an endpoint...Now what?

"Red dragon story"
---Status: picked it up again recently, gone through several permutations since first draft at age twelve, wondering whether it's worth publishing, submitted to Critters

"Fizzy cheese story"
---Status: originally published in high school literary magazine freshman year, can't really publish it anywhere else as is, could be able to turn it into a worthier work

Leftovers
Active imagination as a kid...achieved some perspective as an adult.

"Supercomputer story"
---Status: astonishingly much written given my track record, all characters based on middle school classmates so this may be a dud but I might be able to riff off of it and make something decent

Something about werewolves
---Status: desire to write (maybe), couple of names

Something about dragons
---Status: desire to write (maybe), a dozen names

That other story with dragons
---Status: might have half a dozen pages on a floppy disk somewhere, some names, sketchy world-concept

Other mysterious barely-written stories on said floppy disk:
-"Kid in war"
-"Kid in castle"
-"Story A" (werewolves?)
-"Story R" (dragons?)
-"Story S"
-"Story T"
-"Story Z"

And an Excel file full of character names.

Signed up for NaNoWriMo even though I knew it wasn't going to happen--but I did get some more notes and 123 NaNoWriMo words written on my AE myth concept. So something came out of it at least.

I need to check out some of my poetry with the idea of submitting them to the school's literary magazine by December 1. I don't really have time to write something from scratch by then that will be good enough.
