I enjoyed this story... until our protagonist returned to the lab (to deal with ‘the creators’)... and stumbles across YOU-KNOW-WHO (don’t worry, this won’t spoil the episode [it’s worth a listen]). I must have been... biased against the episode by Alasdair’s introduction. Ripley was a finely honed killer. Number 8 was a finely honed killer. I started enjoying the story far less as #8 has an existential crisis in the food locker. And what the hell was ‘number 9’ all about?! Is #8 looking in the polished sides of the freezer and considering the virtual-image (sorry, high-school optics jargon) her superior? And who was killing off the other clones? As #8 hunted down her predecessors, were #5, 6, and 7 also hunting down simpler versions?
Strong start. Weak & confusing finish. Ah well. I’m just one reader.... :)
