I liked how optics, applied physics, and fantasy blended together.

Was I the only one out here in the aether who thought our protagonist was reminiscent of Rincewind, from the Pratchett’s Disc World series? The bloody (North American) book cover art poisoned my opinion of the entire universe. Pity.
