I know y'all have been wanting one, and here it is.
Things are Officially Getting Rolling. We're going to cast the first episode on April 1. An April Fool's Day joke, you ask? I'll let you determine that for yourselves.
What proof do I have that this is for real? Well, check out our opening line-up. Barring crises with contracts or reading, behold what you'll listen to for the first six weeks. Notice that in addition to weekly full-length fiction, we'll be airing flash every two or three weeks.
EPISODE 1 - April 1: "Come Lady Death" by Peter Beagle
Bonus Flash - April 4: "Skyscrapers" by Rachel Swirsky
EPISODE 2 - April 8: "For Love of Dragons" by C. L. Vaughn
EPISODE 3 - April 15: "Run of the Fiery Horse" by Hilary Moon Murphy
Bonus Flash - April 18: "Pahwahke" by Gord Sellar
EPISODE 4 - April 22: "Goosegirl" by Margaret Ronald
EPISODE 5 - April 29: "The Girl with the Sun in Her Head" by Jeremiah Tolbert
Bonus Flash - May 2: "Giant" by Stephanie Burgis
EPISODE 6 - May 6: "The Dead Girl's Wedding March" by Cat Rambo
Got questions? Lay 'em on me.
-
N_sh must be dead.

This is great news!
One quick question that doesn't need to be answered yet: when will the feed be going up? I can imagine myself getting to June and wondering why I haven't been getting the Podcastly goodness, when I simply forgot to subscribe.
-
Great news. I can't begin to tell you how much I've been looking forward to this.
-
Hoorah!
-
N_sh must be dead.
Maybe he gave this up for Lent, or the N-sh equivalent.
-
N_sh must be dead.
Hey! I'm still here.
-
N_sh must be dead.
Hey! I'm still here.
But are you really?
If we accept that goes can be alive, then they must be able to die. But if they're still being worshiped, well, that prayer-energy has to go somewhere, so maybe it goes into a new, empty, shell of N_sh (a N_sh v1.5 in the tradition of so many software products that go from great to horrible within a single revision). And then that shell of N_sh could be randomly spitting out numbers that convert to Ascii, and as there would certainly need to be a large amount of chaos to create the shell of a god, then those numbers would correspond chaotically to actual sentences with some miniscule amount of coherency.
And certainly a universe altering event such as this would be certain to kill any supernatural beings.

Yes, well.... right.
Any chance we could leave this thread to podcastle discussion, though, inj case there are any people here who are not regulars who would find the discussion of Russell's death a bit confusing?
-
Dude, this is the INTERNET.
No chance whatsoever. When a discussion goes off the rails, it's OFF THE RAILS MAN.
Game over.

Bonus Flash - April 4: "Skyscrapers" by Rachel Swirsky
w00t! IIRC, this was the big favorite from the super-short flash fiction contest last year. (I'm sure palimpsest was aware of that fact, but we have a lot of new members about.)
I'll be looking forward to AFD, along with the rest of you...

I'll second that... besides, if anyone should be spewing Russell-related heresy around here, it's ME, darnit!

Also, she wrote it. Unless I'm mixing up Rachel-s.

Sorry to Palimpsest, didn't mean to thread hijack. TAD — half of my handle is heresy, and it's somewhat of a six-shooter wild-west noon situation, and I believe the overextended metaphor has me shooting your hat off, then you managing to hit your two severals hours later.
I am really exited things are finally rolling and confirmed-dated.
-
Yay!
Thanks for the update!
-
woot. Great news.

I thought half of your handle was "Hera"... thought we know how vicious she could be! I don't dare extend THAT metaphor any further, though, for fear of which role I would be cast in.
Due to my natural slowness, I'll concede the shoot out! ;)

Heredel sounds a bit too much like here dell for my comfort. That and I couldn't really spell that well when I came up with it.
-
I'm very excited to hear PodCastle.
One question. Palimpsest, will you be doing an intro to each story, similar to Steve and Alasdair? I hope so, that would be cool.
The lineup looks great. The only regret is that I didn't see any Tearless Onions.
-
YAAAAAY!
*ahem* Heradel, is your name a portmanteau of "heretic" and "infidel"?
-
Mmmm... so, April 1st, I'll fix a nice big (tearless) onion and (portmanteau) mushroom omelette, and sit down to enjoy my first PodCastle.
I don't know about y'all, but I'm hungry already...
-

Yes.
By way of explanation I was young and angry.
Also, I really needed a last name for my character in D&D. So by using D&D I thus bring us full circle back into the overarching theme of the thread — Nerds.
Also fantasy.

EPISODE 4 - April 22: "Goosegirl" by Margaret Ronald
Is this the classic children's story "Goosegirl" or something a bit more modern?
Either one would be terrific.
Will Podcastle be including older fantasy pieces like Brothers Grimm?

I think it's a re-telling. Possibly this one: http://www.darkfantasy.org/fantasy/?p=387
-
It is indeed that story, Anarkey.
It's a retelling, set in medieval Europe. I hope y'all like it as much as I do. I requested it out of the anthology in which it originally appeared.
-
Thanks for the update. Putting together something that will stand up next to escapepod and pseudopod is a big job, and I'm glad to hear it's working out. I can't wait!

I'm still interested :)
-
There will be story intros.
They won't be by the same person every time. You will, however, get to hear Palimpsest. :)
-
Oh, sorry, didn't see that earlier, Latham.
You'll get to hear hautdesert, too.

Cool on both counts! Looking forward to it.

yaaaay! This makes me as happy as a happy person would be! Or as a happy bunny... or as a happy half dragon-half man-half wizard-2/3 puppy thing! UNICORNS!
Chaaaaarlie!

Oddest Nam flashback ever.

That's just great. Even more good fiction I don't have time to listen too. Are you guys trying to keep me from getting work done? ::) Looking forward to the first episode.
