Title: what fillm am i trying to remember?

hi all
i have bits of a fillm in my head, i remember loving it as a kid but have no idear what it was caled,
to make things trickier i can oanly realy remember bits and bats of it and i am not shure if my memory is pick-and-mixing from   a few diferant films

its proberbly a 60is maby late 50s fillm

a ship (or maby submaren) gets attaked buy a giant octopus and sunk(proberbly)

turns out the octopus is defending adlantes or some such

some salers are draged down in to some king of under sea adlantes tipe land and
some stuf hapens

thay ascape some how

i think the film ends whith the giant octops coming after them when thay get back to the serfice, maby after stolen adlantian gold

i think the film fetures the standard contingent of

chunky chined hero ,posably the boat/subs captin
love intrest for the above
greedy guy trying to nick adlantian gold
dim comic releaf salers (posably the same as the above)

i want to try trak it down so i can get the dvd to inflict on my kids :)
 thare was defanatly a giant squid/octapuss , adlantas and bukets of adventure
