Title: Pseudopod 022: Them Eyes
Post by: Bdoomed on January 26, 2007, 08:06:51 PM
Pseudopod 022: Them Eyes (http://pseudopod.org/2007/01/26/pseudopod-021-them-eyes/)

By Nicholas Ozment
Read by Stephen Eley

She’s standing in the kitchen. She’s on the phone. She’s got it to her right ear, ‘cuz pulpy head-juice is runnin’ down her left ear. She’s talking into the phone.

“Guess what your son-in-law did this time? He killed me.”

I grab the phone out of her gore-soaked hand, slam it down all sticky onto the receiver. I yell at her.

“You know what you just did?! You just signed your mother’s death warrant.”

This is my preferred form of horror.  The sort that makes you laugh.  Not that I don't enjoy being creeped-out, wouldn't be here otherwise.

Good story and reading.

I liked this one, too.  And I usually don't like horror-humor.  I don't usually like voices, but I really like Eley on this one.

I wasn't particularly moved by this story. I felt the story ran longer than it needed too, not that it went on after it should have ended, but that the action was too spaced out to make for great listening and that the nagging wife and mother-in-law weren't played up enough to give the punch line a solid impact. Perhaps that's just because I don't have a MIL?
Steve did well voicing it; it was appropriately and consistently accented.

An amusing tale, although I didn't always understand what was taking place.

Great reading, Steve!

This story wasn't too bad, although horror/humor has to be pretty damn good (I'm talking shaun of the dead good) to sway me.

I loved this story.  I feel zero guilt in bumping this, as others who haven't heard it will have a reason to give a listen.  Loved the Ouija board scene.  I didn't hear Steve at all in this, the voices were way different than what I'm used to from him.

I just wonder what his hell would have been like and if he woulda preferred it.

This had a few laughs, particularly the Ouija board scene, but there were just some things that didn't make sense.  How was his wife able to get up and talk coherently on the fan after half her head is gone?  I kept expecting that to be explained, maybe she's a supernatural something-or-other,  and then it just never was explained.
