See the subject.
Certain hot topics keep coming up; certain good questions keep getting asked; certain behaviors keep recurring, and need to be addressed.
So, we need a FAQ.
But I don't want to write it... none of the moderators has time (methinks)... and the editors certainly don't have time (keep them prowling the slushpiles looking for my the next brilliant story!
So, I humbly suggested in some thread somewhere (http://forum.escapeartists.info/index.php?topic=1756.msg30648#msg30648) that we start a FAQ in a wiki. One of these might be good (though personally, I would prefer MediaWiki, I'm up for helping in whatever venue is chosen).
With a wiki, we enthusiasts may cooperatively throw links to oft-repeated threads, references to frequently linked topics, and various and sundry other things that have been/ought to be "stickied" to the tops of these forums.

To quote the Michael Scott:
Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information.

I'm skeptical and gladly kick the question up the line.

I'm skeptical and gladly kick the question up the line.
I know you're tired of answering the same questions every couple of months:
*"How do I get older eps that have dropped off the feed?"
*"How do donations work?"
*"I want to fight with Russell... is there a thread for that?"
*"This isn't sci-fi/fantasty/horror... why is it here?"
*"I'm new here... what do all the "extern", "hipparch", and other names mean?"
And I know you know what a FAQ is... just, instead of having it locked down so that only you (and bDoomed, and Heradel, and Steve) are stuck managing it, put it in a wiki so the rest of us anal retentive slobs can add stuff as the need arises.

You spend way too much time here.
The forums are small enough that I don't mind the questions that much, but when you get to organizational stuff, it's Steve's call. He runs the place. I just get to kick you guys in the shins when you get out of line.

Touche, Monsieur Pussycat. :(
At least you're still 880 posts ahead of me. :)

Yeah, but I'm not on Drabblecast forums, MySpace, del.icio.us, FaceBook, or Last.fm.

I see what you're trying to say. FINE I'll just leave.

To be a real pi geek, you need to memorise it to the Feynman Point (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feynman_point).

I would like to bring point 56 to a vote. I believe the current version is false.
-
you cant put it to a vote, but you can try to pass an amendment for a latter rule. I'll fight it tho.
-
Then I just bring it up for review. I still think it's false.
I would like to avoid amendments. Anytime some group doesn't get their way, they try to pass an amendment.

well it all depends on your frame of reference... 2 pages is a loooong time for some...
and this thread was silly from halfway down page 1

point taken
-
Someone had a point?
I'm pretty sure there's a rule against that.
-
Yes, there is. Rule 28 in fact.
28. No points.
-
i think that rule needs clarification...
or shall we leave it up to the judiciary branch to interpret its meaning? I guess that would be the mods...

We're usurping even more power.
-
We're usurping even more power.
Usurping would imply that you were taking this power from an existing body. No one has previously stated having dominion to decided what is or has a point. Really you're just making a preemptive clarification of your already existing rights, should anyone ever question it in the future.

I need to work up to when I tell you all to end all of your posts with "Praise N_sh".

Well, this thread appears to be the entire legislative branch of the forums. It's up to us to codify what is or isn't a point insofar as such matters should be written down in law. The moderators can only work within the framework of the FAQ (as there is no forum constitution to appeal to, to overrule FAQ entries).
As such:
28. (a) No sidings, platforms or buffers. The forums are not to be used as a train set.

See. That, right there, is why religion gets a bad name. N-sh doesn't mind if you blaspheme false gods. Heck, he probably knows a few jokes you don't.
All it takes is one reject from Cats putting words in to R-ss-ll's mouth and suddenly he's getting blamed for the crusades, AIDS, and Two Girls One Cup.
-
Help! I'm being repressed!
Ahem. I am reading this of my own free will. N_sh has not threatened me with obliteration, demolition, transmortification or any other horrible demise.
Rule B5. (Revised) Babylon 5 is a great television show, but there is nothing deific about the show or its creator.
::Can I have my fingers back now?::

Rule 2262. No boom today... boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow.
That was actually 2258. How about "If you can't join 'em, beat 'em." I think that was uttered by Captain Lochley.

Yeah, I was being lazy and didn't pick per season, just 5 quotes.

Ah, yes, now that I look again, I think #2260 was actually said in 2259.

Can someone tell me what Rule X Minus One is? I can't find it.
-
the first rule of X Minus One is you do not talk about X Minus One.
-
Sorry to... y'know... interrupt the magic, but I can't tell from the thread -- did a FAQ ever get started?
Coz if not then I might... sorta... maybe...
-
Here is the link to the FAQ. (http://forum.escapeartists.net/index.php?topic=1765.0;all)
Rule 1001: Print "I'm a pretty ballerina"
Rule 1002: x = x + 1
Rule 1003: If x = 1003 GOTO 2001
Rule 1005: GOTO 1001
-
k, i've missed the point. again. (sigh)
-
The only real rule you need to know is that you are subject to the whims of the moderators. Sending money or chocolate is the best way to stay on our good sides. Other than that there is this thread.

Great! Let's get down to brass tacks -- how MUCH money?
-
Well, for a 100 dollar donation to TCoRN you get instant respect and we'll answer a prayer.

What, even the really private ones?

"No, eww!", is a legitimate answer.
