Title: Female Narrator Recruitment Drive
Post by: Alasdair5000 on June 24, 2009, 09:39:26 AM
Morning all:)

Just to let you know, we're actively recruiting for female narrators who can do serious, dramatic work and have good microphones.  There's a note up on my Twitter account to that effect, but if you are or indeed know of, anyone who might be a good fit, get them to send a message to al@escapeartists.net and we'll get them narrator guidelines and an audition piece.  There is of course no pay but our respect is undying.

Wouldn't that be, "Our respect is undead"?

I love it when you guys talk dirty.   :D

I've got a pretty good mic (my Bitter Half is a muso), but the serious part in "serious, dramatic work" throws me right out of contention.

Give it a shot!  You never know until you try.

Shoot me your email address and I'll send you the narrator guidelines.  The worst thing that can happen is we'll say no but even then we'll do so in a constructive, positive way.  Give it a shot, you might be surprised:)

Do chase down Kimberly Steele, author and reader of Forever Fifteen (http://podiobooks.com/title/forever-fifteen). Send some guys over in black unmarked windowless vans if you have to.

I was mesmerized by her reading, particularly of the dialogue by the protagonist, Lucy. She sounded melancholy, innocent, and worldly-wise all at once.

Trying to think of female podcasters who would be good at Pseudopod, and the best one is too busy.  Mur.

I don't think Christiana Ellis would be as good for Pseudopod, she just sounds too happy all the time.  Would be like this one radio newscaster in detroit back in the 80's don't remember her name but she always sounded happy, no matter the news.  My family jokingly referred to her as "The Dead Baby Lady" because we thought she would sound happy reporting about that too.

I don't know if Dawn from Dawn and Drew is still around, as I stopped listening to their podcast close to two years ago now.  I know they did stuff with Sigler, so not opposed to horror or that sort of thing.

Soccergirl?

What about some of the female voice talents from Decoder Ring Theater?  They may be too busy themselves with their own show, but...

Can't think of too many others right now.  Will keep thinking/going through my podcatcher.

Okay- what qualifies as a "good mic"? I've been meaning to try my hand at reading for a cast (was going to try out for SSS), and I don't have anything approaching a good mic yet (headset and one on the webcam but neither is good) but an excuse to get one would be good.. if it's not disgustingly expensive

You're sure to start a heated argument -- or passionate discussion -- with that question :-)

I don't have one myself but I'm seriously considering a Blue Snowball Mic. I've heard great things about it and it's a USB mic which apparently is much better.

Whatever happened to Deborah Green who used to read a lot for EP?  She had a great voice.

Another person I thought of was Summer Brooks from the Farpoint Media podcasts.  I know she is busy, but would love to hear her read stories.  She hosted one ep of PC, but then vanished.

Lene Taylor might be a good choice  She has two podcasts currently I read comics (http://ireadcomics.blogspot.com/) and look at his butt (http://lookathisbutt.blogspot.com/) (a star trek/sci-fi podcast/blog with another female co-host)
