Title: Worlds of Tomorrow wish list
Post by: Zathras on August 23, 2009, 05:34:49 PM
Alright, it's been mentioned in other places, but it's time we give Al a to do list!

T.A.O.B.B.A.T.E.D. is a no brainer, IMO.

I'd like to see:

The Stuff:  Oh, please, oh, please, oh please!  Chocolate Chip Charlie?  Evil Corporate Marketing?  Food That Eats Back?  Yes, yes, OMFG YES!

C.H.U.D.
:  I've got notes for this one if you need them, Al.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man:  It has a Baldwin in it, I'm not sure of which one.  Big John Stud, Don Johnson, Vanessa Williams and Mickey Rourke.  Plus, some of the best character names EVER!

Killer Klowns from Outer Space
:  In Space No One Can Eat Ice Cream.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
:  Again, food that bites back.

Cool thread idea!

Umm....

Silent Running? (I'd love to hear Alisdair's take on Joan Baez's vocals -- like a saw to the brain) There's gotta be stacks you can say about the influence of Huey, Duey and Louie.

Geez, umm...

Time Bandits? Krull? Highlander?

Ooh ooh, I know: Brazil.

If you are going to mention time bandits and brazil why not just say every terry gilliam movie ever made.  Twelve Monkeys is awesome IMHO.  Killer Viruses, Dystopian Future, Time Travel, Ecoterrorists.  I also liked The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, but I understand I am somewhat in the minority on that one.

Sure, Twelve Monkeys I could definitely go for. The Fisher King, not so much.

I thought Munchausen was a great movie.  What would I like Al to do for WoT?  Hmm.  How about Ice Pirates?  Split Second?  Cherry 2000?  I really have awful taste in movies.  Outland might make for an interesting episode.

Great choices!  I hadn't considered Outland, but it would be awesome.

As to Ice Pirates....

Tank Girl!!!!!

come on you have to love a gangsta rapper/gang banger (who now plays a police officer on Law and Order) as a talking kangaroo person.  Not to mention I think Lori Petty looked hotter in this role than any other movie she has been in.  Then again, I find women with nearly completely shaved heads incredibly sexy looking so...

Yeah, I'm actually quite a big fan of cheesy 80's SF and fantasy movies.  Conan the Barbarian was brilliant, I'd say.  The original Nightmare on Elmstreet would also, I think, hold up really well under some critical scrutiny.  Easy to forget, but it was groundbreaking at the time.

Split Second?

"I'm surprised you don't carry a grenade launcher!"

"Couldn't get a permit."

:D I quite enjoyed that film.  Especially when the rookie finally "gets it"* near the end.

*understands the scope of the situation, I mean, not "gets killed".

Blasphemer!  You shall burn at the stake.  After a bit of pie, would you care for whipped cream?

Back to the Future.  I don't know if Al can handle 1.21 Jigawatts though...

Rutger Hauer's best work, for my money.  That film, and Ice Pirates, are dreadfully under-rated.

I don't know if I'd say it's his best work.  Blind Fury was pretty damn good.

I'd like to hear Split Second given its due as well, but particularly if "Nights in White Satin" is played as the outro music.

The whole album is great.

"Cold hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion"

Ug. It was like watching Hauer do a bad Caradine, who was already pretty bad to start with.

Where I'm going I don't NEED...roads.

The next few are sitting in the hamper at the moment for both the Autopsy and Worlds of Tomorrow.  Some familiar, some not so much:)

Umm, so we have Worlds of Tomorrow and Pseudopod Autopsies, so what is the fantasy review going to be called?

'Cause I really want, nay, NEED to hear Al review The Princess Bride.

You must be referring to the cover version by Giorgio (http://www.discogs.com/release/36280) then.  The song recorded by the Moody Blues is "Nights in White Satin".
