I just got a nice rejection letter from one of the associate editors at Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show. The part that I considered "nice" reads as follows, "...I found your story charming, however, and would encourage you to send us some more of your work in the future."
Now I've got to dig around and see if I have anything as good in the trunk as what was rejected...that or write a new story.

Nice! I've yet to manage anything from IGMS except their form letter. That's a good sign!

I've gotten one of those, I think. Someone used the word "charming," anyway. Still, a higher grade form letter is a step up from the flat rejection, ne?

It's true. I've gotten some very nice rejection letters in my time, some even with advice on how to improve the story!

Best one I ever got was from Asimov's... a full-page letter with suggestions and critiques and an invitation to resubmit. So I did, and got another long letter... she didn't buy the story, but that's okay. I guess.
