Title: The Best of StarShipSofa
Post by: Unblinking on December 27, 2010, 01:45:55 PM
Hello everyone, I'm all caught up on StarShipSofa listening, so it's time for my Best of StarShipSofa list, a top 10 with some honorable mentions. For the main list I stuck to listing my favorite main fiction stories, as well as stating some likes and dislikes of the podcast itself.

If you disagree with any of these, well, nothing's stopping you from making your own list (or just commenting)!   :)

I just want to know how you added hours to the day in order to listen to all of them.

I just want to know how you added hours to the day in order to listen to all of them.

I didn't listen to every minute of every episode.  Generally I shaved time off by:
1.  Like I generally do, I gave each main fiction 10-15 minutes.  If at the end of that time I can skip past it and not care what happens, then I do so.  I do the same for the other podcasts I listen to, but the EA casts have a very good rate of interesting me.  SSS has a much lower rate of success for me.
2.  Whenever I catch a whiff of self-promotion, I skip ahead.  And there's a lot of this to skip.
3.  Whenever I've heard the story on another podcast, I skip ahead.  Quite a few of the stories I heard first on an EA podcast.
4.  I skip the "New Titles" section, because it's just Tony reading the back covers of whatever books publishers send him, and he hasn't read them.  I like reviews, but if he's just going to read the blurb I can do that myself and pick the books that sound the most interesting to me.
5.  I've been skipping most of the recently added comic book nonfiction articles, because the guy who writes them admits he doesn't usually read comic books AND actively dislikes superhero comics (which are my favorite comics).
6.  Even with all these, it still took me about 6 months to get caught up while I'm keeping up with the other 4 podcasts I listen to.
