Title: DROID App for podcasts
Post by: Fenrix on August 13, 2011, 06:32:58 AM
Anyone have a recommendation for a good app for a DROID phone for listening to podcasts?

A lot of people recommend Google's Listen.  It does have a good search engine to find podcasts, but I have had issues with it hanging up, getting off track, or having files get corrupted.

I prefer the Hapi Podcast App.  You have to manually enter in the feed URL, but I haven't had any problems with it and I like its file structure.

I'm using the free version of BeyondPod. It does a wonderful job of putting all your podcasts in one place. You get the option to stream or download, make playlists, and it continues playing where you left off if you close the program. I think paying allows you to download multiple podcasts on a scheduled time, but since my phone only works on wifi, I'm okay with downloading or updating feeds one at a time.

Podcast Player

Possibly the simplest app I've used in a long time.

Unfortunately, it does require you to physically move the files from your computer to your Droid, but that doesn't take very long.

It appears that DoubleTwist (sort of an iTunes clone) can automate downloading podcasts and pushing them to a phone, too.

I've started using PocketCasts. It's like having an iTunes-style podcatcher on your phone, without having to use iTunes.

If it has one flaw, it's that when you leave the app and then go back into it from tapping the icon, instead of from your notifications drawer, it doesn't go back to the screen you left off at. But that's very small potatoes.

I used to use DT, but I found it unbelievably slow to use and sync with, even when I wasn't doing it OTA, and they don't have a "wife" button (go back ten seconds -- I didn't coin that term, but I love it, and so does my wife).

Another vote for Pocket Casts. I tried Doggcatcher but didn't like it. Google Listen was nice, but with Google Reader's demise (cries) I don't think it's a good bet.

Pocket Casts just underwent a MASSIVE update and the UI is completely different -- and, in my opinion, not as good. But it still catches, plays, shuttles, and works fine.

I've been using Doggcatcher.  *shrugs*  It functions.  I don't ask for much from my software.
