I just sent the following email to the editors at Escape Pod. When out of curiosity I did a Google search for "cordwainer smith escape pod" to my surprise I only got one hit.

Any other Smith fans here?

------------------------

Greetings,

I've been a subscriber and a listener to Escape Pod and Pseudopod for years now. I was listening to Escape Pod while driving home from work a few nights ago when it occurred to me that I had never heard any of Cordwainer Smith's (pen name for Paul Linebarger) works on the podcast.

I presume that you are familiar with his works - Smith is one of the Golden Era of Science Fiction greats. His works have a poetic and just a "different" feel to them that makes the stand out as unique.

There is a Cordwainer Smith Foundation and the Cordwainer Smith Rediscovery Award. If at all possible it would be great to hear some of his fiction on Escape Pod.

If I may make a personal recommendation, I would suggest The Dead Lady of Clown Town, Scanners Live in Vain or perhaps The Lady Who Sailed the Soul which is one of the earliest references to solar sails.

I don't know who handles the rights to Smith's works but his daughter has a web site at http://www.cordwainer-smith.com/ and might be able to help.

Smith's works are strange enough for the Drabblecast too, but it appears to have stopped producing new episodes.

Regards,

Eric Marsh
