On the heath at the beginning and the end of the world, a witch once built a cottage where she could live with the past, the present, and the future. They are hers, and she is theirs, for as long as life and as deep as death.

The past is a ragged old tom who never strays far from home, forever wanting to lie on the witch’s lap or drape her shoulders. Too easy to forget his nearness until he twists about her ankles and trips her up. The past is warm and comforting, and forever in the way.

Katherine Kendig lives in Champaign, IL, where she completed an MFA in Fiction at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign earlier this year. She’s written plays, screenplays, poems, short stories, and most of a YA fantasy novel. Her story “The History of Women’s Suffrage” was recently published in The Cincinnati Review.



Aimee Ogden is a former science teacher and software tester; now she writes stories about sad astronauts and angry princesses. Her work has also appeared in Escape Pod, Shimmer, and Apex.



Shawn Proctor is a speculative fiction writer who earned his bachelors from Kutztown University and MFA from Rosemont College. He works and lives near Philadelphia with his wife, Hope, a dynamic duo of kids, and a clowder of cats. He is a member of Codex writers group and Critters, and adores weird pajamas.

Tatiana Grey is a critically acclaimed actress of stage, screen, and the audio booth. She has been nominated for dozens of fancy awards but hasn’t won a single damned thing. Alasdair Stuart is the owner of Escape Artists, Inc., as well as host of PseudoPod and co-host of Escape Pod.

His work has appeared in the Guardian, How It Works, the Fortean Times, Sci Fi Now and Neo. He also blogs for SFX and Bleeding Cool, not to mention his personal blog, The Man of Words. In 2012 he published “The Pseudopod Tapes Vol 1: Not the end of the world, just the end of the year” – a collection of his outros from a year of Pseudopod episodes.



Khaalidah Muhammad-Ali lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband and three children. By day she works as a breast oncology nurse. At all other times she juggles, none too successfully, writing, reading, gaming, and gardening. She has written one novel entitled An Unproductive Woman available on Amazon. She has also been published in or has stories upcoming in Escape Pod, Diabolical Plots, and FIYAH. Khaalidah also co-edits podcastle.org where she is on a mission to encourage more women to submit fantasy stories. These are wonderful in production! Great job writers and narrators. I voted for all of these at least once during the contest.

I love cats, so the last one was my favorite. Three very troubling cats.
