Frodo and company overcame all obstacles last week, notably Lawrence of Arabia, which came in for a surprise second place showing.  This week Return of the King goes up against a classic from the master, vampires from the 80's, a Terry Gilliam time travel epic, and the Wachowski brother's adapation of an Alan Moore graphic novel masterpiece.

Who moves on to next week is up to you...

I'm a real movie slacker... I haven't yet seen all the ones in the list. Of course I wouldn't let that stop me from skewing the votes!  ;D

Bit of a weak group this time.

To some degree, this one's harder for me.  Vertigo, Lost Boys, Twelve Monkeys, Return of the King...I love all those movies.  I enjoyed V for Vendetta but it really can't compete in my mind.

I'm surprised that I'm the only one that voted for Lost Boys so far.

I'd like to hear my options, so I could weigh them, what do you say?
Five pounds?  Six pounds? Seven pounds?

While I do love lost boys, it hasn't aged as well imho so I went with twelve monkeys which I think is still poignant in this day and age of airport security etc.

All about 12 Monkeys for me this week.  Fantastic movie and one of a whole skutch (Se7en, The Usual Suspects as well) that completely blindsided me in pretty quick succession.
That being said, this is a pretty great group.  I was torn between this, The Lost Boys ('He pulled a Jedi mind trick on us man!  He opened his eyes and TALKED!') and V For Vendetta which I thought managed to capture that almost impossible thing for adaptations, keeping the spirit of the original very much alive in a different medium.

Unfortunately I've only seen RotK and V of these. I've read the book for one but not for the other. Hmm...

I'll admit, I haven't seen Vertigo myself.  It's on the list because it's a classic, and I really should get around to watching it sometime.

Personally I voted for V - it's an awesome film, and it kept a lot of the best stuff from the graphic novel, which has long been a favorite of mine.  And it tooks guts to make a film where the hero is an anti government terrorist.

12 Monkies is awesome though, and it was a fairly close call.

I have lots of fondness for Lost Boys, but mostly because I used to live in Santa Cruz, where it was flimed.  There's nothing quite like seeing a midnight showing of it, then having half the theather go down to walk across the trestle bridge...

I'm surprised that Return of the King's support seems to have dried up.  We'll see if other two LotR movies do better when the get pulled up in the random draw.

I ended up going with 12 Monkeys.  It was tough -- I really like the other movies.  Lost Boys is one of the coolest vampire movies I've seen.  Vertigo is great.  RotK -- 'nuff said.  V is cool (although not in the same league for me as the others, but certainly a film I enjoyed).  But I think I'd say out of this batch 12 Monkeys was the most influential for me.

I'd be hard-pressed to put much about Fellowship of the Ring.  Maybe part of that is because I really wasn't expecting that much from Peter Jackson the first time around and the movie just completely rocked me.  But it's certainly one of my favorite movies.

I haven't seen it in a little while and I sometimes have trouble remembering what actually made it into the movie and what didn't. The trilogy as a whole would take many films hands down, but sometimes the individual movies are harder to gauge. I also have the text to battle with as compared to the film, whereas I haven't read V (which was the one Alan Moore took his name off of?).

Alan has never seen V.  He vowed to take his name off all future adapations of his work after League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.  He wasn't too happy with From Hell either.  He just hasn't had too good a luck with it up until now (he also created the character of Constantine).  He'll never watch Watchmen either, but I don't see how they could possibly do a good film adapation of that, so it's probably just as well...

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was the first movie I ever walked out of.  Next to Stealth, that was the worst movie in existance.

haha Stealth.  A little before my friends and I walked out, my friend Eli shouted, at the quietest moment in the movie, "This movie SUCKS!"
hahaha.  good times, goooood times.
meh but then we walked out of that, and into frickin The Dukes of Hazzard, which was ending, and that was even worse, so we walked back into Stealth, stayed about 2 minutes, decided it was just as crappy, and walked out of the movies altogether

The League of Extraordinarily Crappy Gentlemen would probably have been okay if you had never seen/heard anything at all about the graphic novel.  Though there was no saving how crappy Hyde looked no matter what.

Up there in worst movies ever is S(t)upernova

Well having read the graphic novel shortly before the movie came out, I had a hard time noticing much other than that's not how that's supposed to be, no that's not the origin of Mina's powers, etc. etc. to notice much else about the movie.  They really could have slapped any other name on it, with as much as was changed from the original story.

And again Hyde was horrible.  It looked like they did a cheaper crappier version of Popeye's arms from the Robin Williams movie.

Oh, dear God, I'd almost forgotten about Supernova.  Yes, that was actually worse than LXG.  Which was awful, and I purposefully didn't read the graphic novel before I saw it.  While we're at it, I'll throw in Mission to Mars as a terrible waste of time.

Stupornova was closest I have come to walking out of a theater I think.  I am glad that a friend bought the tickets for it.  If I had driven and paid for the movie, I think I most likely would have walked out.  Can't remember if I saw Mission to Mars or not.  I might be confusing it with Red Planet.  One I am thinking of had Val Kilmer in it.  It was soso from what I remember, I haven't seen it since it hit the theaters so...

Val Kilmer was in Red Planet.  That movie wasn't really good either, but it wasn't as horrendous as Mission to Mars IMO.

Hmmmm.  Maybe we should have a worst ever film poll, too :)

But where does Plan 9 from Outer Space go?  It' one of those so bad it's good cult classics.  I think part of what makes Ed Wood movies even funnier/better is how earnestly he took himself as a film maker/director.
