Ville Meriläinen is a university student from Joensuu, Finland. His short fiction has won the Writers of the Future contest and has appeared in various venues online and in print, including PseudoPod, Intergalactic Medicine Show, and Abyss & Apex. His musical fantasy novel, Ghost Notes, is available on Amazon.com.

Katrin is a medieval archaeologist specialising in historical textile techniques. She has written “The Middle Ages Unlocked”, an introduction to the English Middle Ages, together with historian and fiction writer Gillian Polack. She also spins, weaves, knits and blogs about all these things at pallia.net.

It’s late into morning on a Friday, and Ava paints the horses. Her feet are bare despite the season, and she has buried them in a pile of leaves that rustles as she curls her toes in rhythm with her strokes. The scent of hot cocoa wafts up from the mug between her knees, mixing with the smell of summer grass that escapes her painting.
