68% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

70% of people who like to use statistics know that statistic.

Edited to add a quick descriptive statistic I made up:

Sorry to change the subject  ;) but I'm from Oregon, USA.

I'm a big fan of Lovecraftian type horror, because it was really the first stuff I ever read in the horror genre, and I dislike bloody gory stuff, but I am liking Pseudopod so far (working my way to current). I prefer more subtle terror and things unseen than to 'see' it. It's like the spiders under the house when I was running network cables around. I didn't mind the ones I saw, it was the ones I had seen but were not unseen that unnerved me.

So, yeah... great question, but too bad we can't keep the thread on-track long enough for the non-US/UK/AUS folken to fess up!

Maybe what we need is one of those cool MySpace-widget thingies; like the My World Map Generator (be sure to have your pop-up blocker running if you follow that link, though).

I dunno if it's still around, but I think there are other sites like Frappor(?) and Google that do the same thing, and aren't as annoying as myspace.

So, moderators, any idea if it's possible/desirable to put one of these nifty map o' meters on the forum somewhere, to see whence our visitors hail?

I'll get it. Give me a minute.  (Confused? See sig).

I Twitter. I also occasionally blog on the Escape Pod blog, which if you're here you shouldn't have much trouble finding.

I think this should work: http://www.frappr.com/?a=constellation_map&mapid=137440464359 , but let me know.

Edit: I think it's working now, but you guys need to go over and test it. Make sure to put your handle in there so it's not just random names.

Edit the Second: Palimpsest, whose name I finally began being able to spell in one go just after she switched, kindly tested it for me, so everything looks ready, y'all just need to add yourselves.

Now, this seems to recognise me when I first open the map, but then it only cycles through the other denizens of the, um, world. Is this the proper behaviour?

I think so. There's a button just to the side of the upper left corner of the map that'll pause it though.

I'm in West Berlin.  In the day it was called the West Pole, because every direction you went was East Germany.

Is there a lot of evidence of the wall and the division of Berlin there?  That is so crazy to think about a town divided like that for so many years.  It's crazy to think next year it'll be 20 years since the wall came down.

Unfortunately, it seems to just put the dots on for one continent at a time.

Alright, does anyone know how to delete and reload the pics that come up with?  I tried clearing all the fields, but the same one is still there. ::)

You can zoom in or out.  The buttons are on the right towards the bottom.

I think you need to create a login and then go to settings but I'm not sure.

Ah, yes, when I was looking no one in Europe had done it yet so I was looking for Cammo by going to the left of the Americas, the dots only work for the earth image bounded by the Americas on the left and Australia/Asia on the right, so I missed it.

I'm also in Berlin, originally from just around the corner from Cammo. Really. In fact I drove to Colac last time I was home just for the hell of it. Left it kinda quickly again, but I did grab a decent meat pie.

Born in Washington State.

Lived in a few different states.

Now my family and I live in the small high desert town of Mojave, Ca. Full of wind, churches, drunks, and the first privately owned spaceport. What a combo.
