I just discovered Gareth L. Powell this fall and loved Embers of War. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Who else should I read? My to-be-read pile is large but that's ok...

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help. Despite having read several hundred Star Trek books, I've never really ventured very far into the genre. I would like to mention one story that you may like. It's called "But As a Soldier for His Country" by  Stephen Goldin. You can listen to a reading of it here for free:
