Unfortunately that's just the luck of the draw. Stories were completely randomized. The outcome would likely be the same in either case -- good stories that deserve to progress would still end up losing out to the stories they lost to initially, just in a later round. So it doesn't _really_ matter much in the end except for bragging rights.

We could move to some kind of double-elimination, but we're already combating some pretty heavy voter attrition and that would just make things way way worse.

I'd like to hear my options, so I could weigh them, what do you say?
Five pounds?  Six pounds? Seven pounds?

Bdoomed, can stories that don't win the competition be submitted to Pseudopod?

yes! I would wait until the contest is over, because the editors can and will select their own favorites to purchase (usually from the finals round but there's no rules there)

Related question, I noticed that in round 5 an author asked for their story that didn't advance to be deleted before they submitted it somewhere else. Since these forums are private, though, it's not really a necessity though, is it? Just caution on their part?

Correct. These stories are considered unpublished since they can only be seen by forum members with a post history. You're more than welcome to request deletion of your story, but it's not necessary to retain first publication rights.

Will those that didn't advance receive an official notice from PseudoPod? For purposes of reporting to Submission Grinder...

Depends on if the software we're using lets me send out mass messages at the end of the contest, otherwise no (Moksha is newer to the org, super new to me, so I don't know its capabilities fully and I don't know if I even have access to do something like that). Generally I like to send out messages to everyone but it's not guaranteed for the purposes of this contest.

Yes! Sorry, life keeps getting in the way. I posted the poll announcements in the middle of the workday so I wasn't able to get the stories transferred over and whatnot. Working on that now. :)

Round 2 Group 3 is alive and hungry for your votes. Don't make it wait. You won't like it if it has to wait.

Therefore, for those who did not advance to the next round, we are free to submit our work elsewhere?

How should unsuccessful entries be reported (to Submission Grinder or Duotrope)? Rejection form? Rejection personal? Withdrawn?

That's a good question, and one I'm not entirely sure how to answer. It's not like PseudoPod is rejecting the story, specifically. The Submission Grinder doesn't really have a category for contests. I suppose it's up to your judgement, but I'd lean towards 'personal' rejection since it was voted on by forum members, likely has one or more comments on it, and simply didn't continue to further rounds.

There's actually a special Submission Grinder entry you can use, "PseudoPod Flash Fiction Contest" https://thegrinder.diabolicalplots.com/Market/Index?id=1164

Rejection form or personal are what I'd use.

For some reason I can't find the stories anywhere, like they aren't showing up for me at all.

You should be able to see them now -- you need at least one post in the forums to unlock the stories!

I suspect Bdoomed will wait until the runoff polls have closed, which happens on November 26.  But I'm just speculating.   :)
