You can apparently set gender, so male(blue) and female(pink — I didn't pick the colorsnevermind it's red), however none of the girls have declared themselves as such for the maps. Yellow's someone who hasn't declared.
Heh. Have you ever tried admitting to being a girl geek? The best it gets you is funny looks. Speaking from experience, I don't recommend it.
OK, some half hour later...
The more I think about it, the more I realize that most intelligent women I know are pretty resistant to being grouped by gender alone. I was actually mildly indignant at the categories available on the map. What in heck does my gender have to do with liking speculative fiction??? How about, which of the podcasts do you listen to? And what about the "super-intelligent version of red" which seems to be missing?
Or, the choices could be defaults, in which case I apologize for beating you up over them...
They were defaults, and by the time I noticed them people had already chosen some of them, so I figured to just let people choose for themselves and mess with it by adding in the nonsense categories. The 'Superintelligent Shade of Blue' is actually a reference to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so I'd take that up with Douglas Adams, who shouldn't be dead but is. It should be in no way construed as a gender reference, because it isn't.
Really, I don't think gender matters at all. It was a default, people chose it, or didn't chose it. We've discussed the whole gender in SF ball of wax extensively elsewhere, most recently in the
fantasy women thread.
Anyway, welcome to the forum, don't feel the need to identify any more or less than you want to, and if you have any gender-related problems here, let one of the mods know and we'll look into it.
