I'm a perv, I know, but for an instant I saw "heed" as "head".

My suggestion:

blah blah author bio blah blah and then, no transition, just a very brief pause...

"I believe in (oblique reference to story).  In a few minutes, so will you."

ie:

Osteomancer's Son:  "I believe in the magic we feel in our bones.  In a few minutes, so will you."
Come Lady Death:  "I believe death comes for us all.  In a few minutes, so will you."

(how's that for my intro/outro/editing audition..:) )

I like that.  It's got what I like about Eley's "... it's story time" bits for Escape Pod.

I liked the one Rachel used in today's episode. Though the delivery was rather stilted, but it's the thought that counts.

It was a nice one-off on PP.  It made me grin.

Yeah, I do. I recognized the line, and the joke made me grin too. But I also liked the line for its own sake - at least, I like it better than anything offered in this thread so far.

(Also, could people please stop inserting random e's into my name? It's not my fault my name does not have an anglicized spelling, and I feel I should be able to use it in forums without it being mangled.)

I believe the anglicized version of Eytan would be Ethan.

By the way, since I was very tired when I wrote that last night - the part about the delivery being stilted was supposed to be an allusion to it being a joke, not an actual criticism. Which, re-reading this morning, makes no sense.

Haven't had chance to listen yet, but have never listened to Pseudopod so the joke will be lost on me  :(

You can read this, if you want.  That way you'll only sully your eyes, and not your ears  ;)

I don't mind "sullying" my ears ... last time I did so was listening to the good doctor's review of Doctor Strangelove on Escape Pod.  ;)

I liked the tagline this week -- the send-up of the EP tagline.

Honestly, I never really liked the EP tagline... it's creative, but the "it's storytime" part always sounded kind of juvenile to me, especially considering the normally-high quality of work on EP.

"And now for something completely different:" ... it's a classic!

Also, I love the EP tagline. For PC, I'm kind of in the "let it come naturally" boat. With "after the story, the feedback", some sort of ritual already seems to manifest.

I always though "And now for life completely different" would be a good Escape Pod tag line.

"Stop me if you've heard this one before ..." ;D

I actually really like this as an intro.  I like the implicit challenge to the editors to keep coming up with something we haven't heard before (not that I think that they need to be kept on their toes).  I love the tease of suggesting to the reader that they might have heard something before, then blindsiding them with a cunning twist or a truly fantastic tale: I think it plays nicely to readers' expectations of traditional fantasy and PodCastle's obvious facility for coming up with something more interesting.

"I believe in (oblique reference to story).  In a few minutes, so will you."

Please no.  Don't tell me what reaction I "will" have to a story: even if I grit my teeth and keep my thumb away from the Stop button when I hear the phrase, I will instinctively look for reasons to have the opposite reaction.  I would rather listen to the stories with an open mind, and something like this would prejudice me terribly.

Here's a simple one, based on fantasy's territory in non-future imaginary worlds:

"It could have happened like this..."

Although I'm not happy with the extra hurdle this puts before suspension of disbelief (that it didn't happen like this), it seems preferable to PseudoPod's grating insistence on the truth of its fictions.  Ambiguous versions seem to get the worst of both worlds:

"Maybe it happened like this..."
"I heard that this is what happened..."

But maybe it could be adapted each week to the story and the tone of the intro.
