It's the final film poll! This time I really mean it! No more sequels! You know, except for the runoff groups I'll do in a few weeks.

Last week saw the previous winner, Memento, come in dead last. Casablanca was a clear victor, but Beetlejuice did quite well. This week we have the last four of the 120 films that went into the virtual hat. And there was some good stuff sticking to the bottom there. Eww, bad metaphor. Anyway:

OK, I spent about 5 minutes alternately clicking the radiobuttons for Star Wars and The Day The Earth Stood Still.

But it's Star Wars. How can I not vote for it?

Star Wars, Casablanca, Jaws?  The others are good, but it's between those three, and really, it's no contest. Star Wars all the way for me.

Have to go with Star Wars since I can't really say I've seen Casablanca, have never seen The Day the Earth Stood Still, don't think much of Jaws, and consider David Lynch's Dune an insult to a fine novel.

Has The Fifth Element ever been in one of these polls?  I would consistently vote for that one over any other films that you could list.

It was spanked by Blade Runner, back in week 6.

Star Wars, and it will be tough to beat in the next round of 30, also.

This is the first time I've voted in one of these movie poll things.  Because finally I've seen all five movies it's asking about!

So, yeah, Star Wars.

I like that you resisted the title Film Poll XXX: & Debauchery

I Twitter. I also occasionally blog on the Escape Pod blog, which if you're here you shouldn't have much trouble finding.

A tough call between Star Wars and Casablanca, but Bogey won in the end.

It might have been tougher if I hadn't seen the restored version of Star Wars more recently.  I discovered that going back to see it as an adult, many of the B-movie conventions -- Storm Troopers who can't hit a stationary target at 100 yards, the princess emerging from days of brutal interrogation with perfectly coiffed hair and lipstick, etc. -- bothered me more than when I saw it as a teenager.  At it's heart, it is what Lucas and Spielberg said they wanted it to be -- an old-fashioned serial with A-level production values.  It's a thrill ride, and a brilliantly crafted and influential one, but I have a hard time seeing it as more than that.

Casablanca on the other hand... Well, it's a classic in every sense of the term...

I had to go with Star Wars, too.  I mean, I've watched it so many more times than any of the others. Gotta be Star Wars.

Does it matter?  Granted, the second was better, but only in the way that Star Wars: Attack of the Clones was better than the first...

I'm just feeling too grouchy to vote for either Jaws or Star Wars tonight; dealt with my feelings about Casablanca in the last poll; haven't seen The Day the Earth Stood Still, and don't think I'll have time to rent it before the poll closes.

I had the Lynch version in mind, but if you want to vote for the other one, go right ahead.

have never seen The Day the Earth Stood Still

Go watch it NOW! Otherwise you won't know the magic words to stop Gort from destroying you.

Voted Star Wars, BTW

I haven't seen it but I believe I know the words anyway.  Even if Ash never could get the last one right.

This one is easy. Star Wars is good, but Casablanca is the best film of all time bar none.

The lamp flared and crackled . . .
And Nevyrazimov felt better.
