And we're at the last group!  And if anyone didn't think there were enough actual Science Fiction films in the finals, this week should do a lot to correct that.  Of course, they're all competing against each other, but that's the luck of the draw.

Much easier decision for me this time.  Blade Runner.

This may be the first film poll in which I've seen all of the films nominated.

Toss-up between Blade Runner and The Wrath of Khan for me, but I ended up going with the latter.

No, it doesn't count as an incomplete film.  Spock is dead, having nobly sacrificed himself to save the ship and crew, and any subsequent films that had him in them took place in some parallel universe not unlike the one in "Mirror, Mirror".

All good movies, but I had to go with Bladerunner.

On the 26th of December last year, I watched the theatrical version, the director's cut, the workroom print and the final cut. That was a good day ;)

Bladerunner.  Easier choice this week.

I think I'd burn out watching the same film (or minor variants thereof) four times in one day.  Unless maybe it's Tokyo Godfathers.  No, I'd burn out even on that film.

Ocicat, do you have a master bracket (like the NCCA hoops tourney)?

The first time I saw Primer, I ended up watching it three times in one evening. And twice more that weekend.

By the end of it, I was sure that the whole thing made sense. I just wasn't quite sure how.

But, yeah. Bladerunner I watched four times for the pure pleasure of it.

I don't know anything about NCCA, but here's how it goes...  The best scoring four movies from the original polls are not in these groups (bonus points for whoever can identify all four missing films!).  The Quarterfinal round will be the each group winner vs. one of the top seed films.  That will bring us down to four movies in the semifinals, then down to a final 1-1 fight for the gold...

By the way, putting my nitpicking hat on -

Twelve monkeys. Not monkies.

(Which I only noticed because it's a mistake I often make myself).

There's always Twelve Monkees, a comedy from the 60's involving a popular music combo and a cloning machine gone hilariously wrong.

not to be confused with twelve monk ease, the genetic theory that a bean's recessive traits can be separated quicker if you have a dozen test cases.

A good bunch of films, for sure, but for me Blade Runner is the clear stand-out, Wrath of Khan runner up. (As it were...)

Aliens is probably the best action film I know, but still I picked Blade Runner over it.

I have a certain fondness for the theatrical version. Unlike the vast majority of people, I like the pulp noir feel of the voiceover. The ending, though, sucks.

My ideal version would be the theatrical version without the ending, but replacing the voiceover after Batty's death with the one that was used in the workprint version. I think I'd probably take the opening crawl from that version, too.

I should probably be fired from fandom for eternity for admitting this, but I have never managed to stay awake through Bladerunner.

:/

I love me some 12 monkeys.

If I can be permitted to be unimpressed by the almost-universally-beloved Firefly, I think you can be forgiven your apathy to Blade Runner.

I love me some 12 monkeys.

I really must watch that again.  I've only seen it once, shortly after its release to video, though I do remember liking it a lot.

(Of course, I have yet to dislike a Terry Gilliam film.)

I will admit, 12 Monkeys did kick much ass.  I remember being blown away by the story, the direction and especially the performance by Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis.

I should watch that one again sometime soon, too...

Blade Runner for me. I was surprised by this one. I voted before I read the comments, and was expecting Aliens to be the frontrunner. And I need to watch 12 Monkeys again, too... I've only seen it once in it's entirety, and remembering being confused... definitely needs to go back to on my rewatch list.

Had to go with 12 Monkies as well, I have to admit. I am relieved I am not the only one, and yes, it was a very close call, as I absolutely love Blade Runner. But thinking back, 12 Monkies had the greater impact on me.

Wait... something Russel is voting for is winning.

Is that allowed?
