I'm working my way thru the backlog of Pseudopod and enjoying every minute of it.
I haven't listened to all of them so the answer might be revealed with time, but I thought I’d comment anyway. Mur, I hope you keep the line "...and I promise you, it's true."

How do you fight a bully that can un-make history?

Strongly thirded.  That's Mur's "it's story time" and I miss it when it's gone.

Hey guys.

We had gotten some strong opinions to the contrary, and only after i stopped saying it did people start saying they missed it.

I guess it goes to show that one need to give positive feedback as well as negative... :)

What do others think?

Squeaky wheels.

I'd have spoken up sooner, but as I was so new to both EP and PP (huh...) I didn't want to go running off at the mouth, er, keys.

I always liked that line.  I think I said something about in response to somebody else's criticism in the comments thread either the week right before or right after it got cut  :(

The let me add, while we're on the topic, that I enjoy having Mur do the intros. Her voice isn't too sweet and clear to be hosting such a grim show, but it does have a kind of innocence* or honest enthusiasm* about the horror genera, a thing that I don't know if a male host would convey... or perhaps it's just a little more disconcerting to hear a woman introduce such grim and grizzly tales.
Anyway, I like Mur's work.

Potential Pole Questions:
Please select your preference:
-I like Mur's "... and I promise you; it's true." tag line.
-I don't like horror, SF, puppies.
-I clicked this one by mistake
-I think you spelled "Pseudopodia" wrong.

- I like Mur's "... and I promise you; it's true." tag line.

After the first few stories, I got used to hearing Mur say it before the story starts. It's part of what give me that chill down my spine. Though I'm kind of ashamed to say that I was already almost halfway into a story when I realized that something was missing. I had to start the episode over and listen carefully to the intro.

I say bring it back. Please?  :)

Definitely keep the promise in the show.  We know that these stories are all lies, so a broken promise just strengthens the horr.... wait, these stories aren't real, right?  Right?  Why is everyone looking behind me like that?

-Dan

PS Seriously, I think it's a great tagline.

Hmmm. I dunno if I should be freaked out, but I'm actually contemplating the level of effectiveness of plain bulbs  vs.  flakes of garlic and onions. XD

The stress of the day has taken its toll. I think I'll lie down and listen to Single White Farmhouse again.

Oh, bulbs, defiantly, but we're working with a limited time here and probably an unwilling roast...um, host. Given my druthers, I'd make a nice leg roast with slivers of garlic slipped under the skin and rubbed with sea salt and fresh ground black pepper, served with mashed potatoes, glazed carrots and Chianti... but that's just me.

You wouldn't rather have a stake with those potatoes?

I didn't really mind one way or the other what the tag line was. But I do so love intros and outros. I think they're important, and I think they generate a sense of intimacy with the communities of both Escape Pod and Pseudopod.

OH and for the record, Pseudopod is probably the cleverest name for a horror podcast I could imagine.

Cool.  You can credit Mur for that too.

Ben brought up Cephalopod, which we also really liked, but at the time there was a Cephalopod Studios already doing a fiction podcast, so we didn't want to introduce confusion.  And know there's a Cephalopodcast which has nothing to do with horror -- it's actually about ocean science.

Hmm... "really old thread warning". Oh well.

I like the "...and I promise you it's true" because it gives me a feeling of like "ooh - ooh... they're turning down the house lights now!"

Ritual is (or should be) a big part of story-telling.

I feed The Pod.

I totally agree:)  And for what it's worth, that line has the exact same effect on us:)

We had a bit of a revolt here in the forums when Mur stopped using that for a while.

Definitely not wrong about that.
I was just thinking the other day about how much I still love that line.

Heh. I clicked the "new" button (my new favorite toy) and I was like "Mur? Huh? I'm sure I'm caught up, Alisdair and Ben didn't succumb to a freak gasoline fight accident did they?" And then I realized all the dates were from 2007.

I like the "and I promise you, it's true" too. I also like the thing at the end that Alisdair always does like "Pseudopod has seen the little girl you speak of, but we swear she died years ago." (And wrong forum, but I love the way Steve has been setting his recitation of the Creative Commons license within the context of the story we just heard.)
