My son is about to lose his first tooth.  I told him I'd research it and find out if the Tooth Fairy will come to Germany and if so, how much she gives.  The Tooth Fairy doesn't come for German kids, but he's an American, so we hope she'll come here for him.  I've looked and I can't find a conclusive answer about how much she leaves now.  How much does she leave where you are?

It was 50p when I was a kid (about $0.90 / €0.65 at today's exchange rate), but it's probably more than that now, what with inflation.

To call them "worthless" would be an insult to something with no value.  :P

Seriously, I have no recollection of what mine got me.  Might have been a nickel, might have been a quarter.

My inclination would be to give the kid enough money that will make him happy, but not enough for it to be a major event. Does he get a weekly allowance of pocket money or anything like that? If so, I would give around 20% of what he gets each week - a nice small bonus.

Rant gave kids coins worth $15,000 when they lost their teeth.

I got a dollar the first time I lost a tooth, that was right after my mom told me the tooth fairy was fake.
hahaha

I'd like to hear my options, so I could weigh them, what do you say?
Five pounds?  Six pounds? Seven pounds?

The idea is to find the current market value.  I got a quarter in the mid-70's.

To answer Eytanz's question, he has gotten 1€ a week since his fifth birthday.

I think I got a dollar when I lost a tooth ( except for that one time... I got a sandwich bag of change lol)
but the last tooth I lost was over 10 years ago so ya

I'm pretty sure it was a buck.  If I was in Germany, I might just give him €1.  Although the euro's worth a lot more there now than it was when we lived there.

It's worth basically the same here.  It's worth a bundle more in the states than it was before.

We used dollar coins.  They're cooler than dollar bills and they're golden.

We use them for the kid's weekly commission.

We all got .25 for teeth and .50 for molars.

We used dollar coins.  They're cooler than dollar bills and they're golden.

Personally, I think coins are the way to go. Paper money seems... less special.
Also, make sure you hide the tooth well after retrieval so you don't end up paying for the same tooth twice.

Used to be £1 for me, rougly £2. if you were being really harsh you could just use yen or a currency he hasn't seen before and tell him it's worth a lot...
