Windup played from an old state, and since he voted for an eliminated book, I don't think his move is recoverable, so I'll ignore it.

Sheesh... I'm going to give this up and go do something I can handle, like the "Pointless, brainless argument" thread....   :-[

Along these lines, what was the book about a man being conscripted onto a spaceship?  It was an unpopular job because centuries would pass on planets while only months passed for the members of the ship.  I could go into more detail, but I don't want to be spoilerish.  For some reason, I want to say it was a Heinlein book, but I'm not sure.

The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.  I like to recommend it to anyone who's read Heinlein's Starship Troopers.

That wasn't the book I was thinking of, but I wikied it, and it's on my list now.  Thanks, your recommendations are usually good ones!

In the book I'm thinking of, it was a merchant ship.  They returned to Earth about 80 years Earth time after they left.  The conscript was grabbed at a bar just before his wedding.  When they came back, his fiancee was, of course, old.

Ack, now it's gonna drive me crazier than I already am.
