Wait, I just realized something looking at Margaret Weis's that explains everthing -- I think the SotG series was written by the sheltie!  (I loved those books when I was about twelve, but oh man are they awful in hindsight).

Also, I don't think Frederick Pohl's puppy trusts the photographer.

Don't be hating on the Dragonlance "Dragons of Blah Blah Blah" series! It's what got me into fantasy and I'm still very fond of them, regardless of their juvenile-ness! :p (packed away somewhere is my autographed Dragons of Autumn Twilight).
