Now that I've displayed what a complete arse I am, let me try to be a little more eloquent.
Disclaimer, though: there's a reason I've been using the moniker "kibitzer" for more than 15 years ;-).
My first EA podcast was Pseudopod and it immediately captivated me with its apposite "Bloodletting On The Kiss". It frames the whole horror thing beautifully; every week I look forward to the opening notes because it means Pseudopod's Here Again! It's a quiet, low thumping evocative of a heartbeat and leads you in gently.
The Podcastle music is similar; it frames the 'casts with a smooth other-worldy feel that leads you in to the coming story.
But Escape Pod...
Now, full disclosure -- in general, I'm no fan of surf music. Of course, there are exceptions such as Midnight Oil's "Wedding Cake Island". And overall, the music for the "regular" EP 'casts is OK. But the one for the flash 'casts is strident, cutting and intrusive. It doesn't suggest sci-fi, it explodes right into your ears as you're waiting for a spoken word experience, it cuts right through your consciousness. I cannot listen to it easily and almost always fast-forward the 20-some seconds it lasts. It's an intrusive, jarring, ice-sharded painful experience.
These are, of course, my opinions and experience. Your Mileage May Vary.
Just wanted to explain myself a little more. We now return you to your regular programming.
