I'm no fan of Daikaiju, but the music doesn't bother me.  I've gotten used to it.

You signed up two weeks ago and this is your first post?  A little weak.

I don't think the music for the flash episodes is really played long enough to get any strong feelings either way.

What would you use?

I love all the EP music.  It is part of the identity of the podcast.

I agree that it is the identity of the podcast.  Would I buy their albums no, but I LOVE PP's music.  I HAVE bought all of Ander's Manga's music.

I love all the music, but I especially love the EP Flash music.

Did Daikaiju ever rerelease that other album this stuff was on?

Not me.

I love "The Phasing Spider Menace", and all Daikaiju recordings.

Exactly. As is the voice of Vicki. (Still hoping she gets a cameo role sometime.)

I feed The Pod.

Now that I've displayed what a complete arse I am, let me try to be a little more eloquent.

Disclaimer, though: there's a reason I've been using the moniker "kibitzer" for more than 15 years ;-).

My first EA podcast was Pseudopod and it immediately captivated me with its apposite "Bloodletting On The Kiss". It frames the whole horror thing beautifully; every week I look forward to the opening notes because it means Pseudopod's Here Again! It's a quiet, low thumping evocative of a heartbeat and leads you in gently.

The Podcastle music is similar; it frames the 'casts with a smooth other-worldy feel that leads you in to the coming story.

But Escape Pod...

Now, full disclosure -- in general, I'm no fan of surf music. Of course, there are exceptions such as Midnight Oil's "Wedding Cake Island". And overall, the music for the "regular" EP 'casts is OK. But the one for the flash 'casts is strident, cutting and intrusive. It doesn't suggest sci-fi, it explodes right into your ears as you're waiting for a spoken word experience, it cuts right through your consciousness. I cannot listen to it easily and almost always fast-forward the 20-some seconds it lasts. It's an intrusive, jarring, ice-sharded painful experience.

These are, of course, my opinions and experience. Your Mileage May Vary.

Just wanted to explain myself a little more. We now return you to your regular programming.

IIRC, Bloodletting on the Kiss took caught a bit of "hate" after PP had just started. But I agree, that song seems so well suited to PP I can't imagine them using something else.

(Although I feel the same about the EP music. Music can be just as subjective as stories, I guess.)

Anyway, welcome to the forums. Hope you enjoy hanging around for a while :)

I don't mind the EP Flash music, but what gets me every time is the recent (tail end of last year?) change where the, er, refrain?, is repeated.  It's been half a year and I still forget it every time and jump when there's music rather than the start of the story.

First time I herd Daikaiju I liked it right away.

I ended up buying their album, which is great.  I've been in the mood to find good music with out lyrics lately.  Daikaiju was what I was looking for

So of course...  I like the music on the flashes.

Yup, these are all the reasons I really like this music for the flash pieces. I actually says...

Pretty appropriate in my opinion.

I only dislike it because of the periodic volume issues I experience.  That is, I'll have a story going on my iPod and cheerfully be doing something else, and then my story ends and the new one starts and DUNNNDUNDUDNUDNDUDNNNDUNDUNDUD all in my ears and ow.  It's not every time, either; sometimes the stories are mixed just fine and the music doesn't seem unusually loud, but other times it's nearly caused me to fall off my Wii Fit Balance Board as I claw desperately at my headphones.

If it weren't for the random volume spikes that accompany the intro music sometimes, I'd not mind it at all.  (I wouldn't particularly enjoy it, either, but it wouldn't make me cringe as if in anticipation of a blow.)

I changed the title of this thread because it was really bothering me, and seemed way too harsh for the actual sentiments in this thread. heh.
and it also didn't really reflect the topic of the discussion.

I'd like to hear my options, so I could weigh them, what do you say?
Five pounds?  Six pounds? Seven pounds?

Whoah.
I totally forgot about seeing this thread before, and even posting in it.
I thought it was going to be about music limited to 500 notes or less. ;)

Oh, wait. That pretty much describes most Pop music. ::)

And, for Daikaiju fans, I PMed kaijusaafu (SecretMan) with this:
Quote
Is there any way to buy the CD of (or legit files of) "The Phasing Spider Menace"? I keep hearing bits of it on the EscapePod podcasts, and would like to hear the rest.
I'm also looking for whatever "Laser Runner", "Escape From Nebula Space", and "Zombie Harem" is from. Especially "Zombie Harem".
Oh. Now on youtube I see there's "Garuda"
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9499ZBXJ8Vk - Has that been recorded yet?

His reply, dated Sept. 29, 2009:
Quote
All of those songs and more have been recorded to be released on the next Daikaiju cd. I am still not entirely happy with the mixes, so I want to take a crack at remixing/remastering the songs before committing to release them as a collection. Zombie Harem (the version on MySpace) will be available for download as a single off of iTunes and other online music services. The other tracks will hopefully be ready sooner than later. I will keep you posted.

Amateur video of "The Phasing Spider Menace" live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkbCCoYRiHg . Love the go-go girls. Very William Gibson Idoru, somehow.

That's why I like the Ramones, 3 chords and done, none of this 500 notes crap.
