The first quarterfinal... wasn't even close.  Harry Potter (who came in second in his last group) decimated Princess Bride (which came in first in it's last group).  I was actually quite surprised.  But then it also seems that a lot of folks haven't actually *read* Princess Bride, and it got this far based on overflowing love for the movie.  Which is great - but folks, read the book!  Tons of fun.

This week we have Gaiman's most popular entry in the poll vs. Podcastle favorite Peter S. Beagle.  Well, I'm sure Gaiman would be a Podcastle favorite too, if we could get a story from him!

I <3 them both, but Neverwhere is not my favorite Gaiman writing whereas Last Unicorn is probably my favorite Beagle.  Ergo...

I think Neverwhere is my favorite Gaiman, actually.  I just adore the worldbuilding mostly.  I love the BBC miniseries too - though you have to forgive some of the low production values.  The Great Beast is just... embarrassing.

So which Gaiman novel is your favorite?

Probably "Sandman," if that counts.  I primarily like Gaiman's short fiction; his novels have never warmed me quite as well.  He's the bees knees at shorts, though.

I've never read either. I might have read a graphic novel adaptation of Neverwhere but I can't remember.

Neverwhere is probably my favorite Gaiman, possibly because it was the first one I'd read by him. But I think I've reread it more than any other book, and I always enjoy coming back to it.

Despite it being my favorite, it's probably not his best. (Sandman is just...amazing, and I think he really hit his novel-prose stride with American Gods.) Likewise, even though I voted for Neverwhere, I can't say I'm surprised Last Unicorn's coming out on top (thus far).
