OK, I think I'm doing this right but feel free to correct me, Slaughtermaster Fenrix. I really liked Bruise for Bruise and I don't think it's down for the count just yet. COME ON THEN COME GET ME!!

Not only is she making the desicion to kill herself for her husband and kids, they created her to do that for them. We all wear masks, most of us get to chose what face we put on in the morning, others are forced into those choses by responsibilities. So Mandy comes back from the dead to have another hellish soccer mom day in the life.

The awful things that strange and manipulating people do to their children. I'll take from one that highlights the ugliness and help it focus on one that is tragically beautiful.

We will take away from a monster that is all-too real, and give it to one that is less. We sleep better (but not necessarily with the lights out) knowing that the monsters are all in your head.

Shouldn't have become so distracted with catching up for my nominations...
Lights wasn't a bad story, but it isn't better than most of these.  It might be time to turn the Lights out.
I'll be here all week.

Both good flash stories with a similar idea.  But letting your pieces go free is nowhere near as scary as giving them up for misplaced love.  The protagonist of Escape gains a sick sort of control over her situation, and I posit that this is less horrifying than the woman who loses herself entirely in the increasingly unhealthy pursuit of an unhealthy relationship.

"Corps Cadavre" was a little too determinedly weasels-ripped-my-flesh for my taste. (Wish I knew what I meant by that). "The Line" had a pleasantly Stephen-King-trials-of-childhood feel without the voluminous overrun he sometimes generates.

Corps Cadavres is a neat weird west post apocalyptic bit of fiction. However, I found that Corps Cadavres brought less to the zombie genre than either Lights or Association. So I'll finish it off and let those zombies dance in its corpse.

Although a classic and a fantastic tale with a great reading, I think we should work to peel this off early to stave off a repeat of all stories being rendered into Oil of Dog.

Having re-read IT recently and digging the similar vibe without the uncomfortable bits and rambling of King, The Line deserves a boost.

I LIKED Oil of Dog.  And also Voice in the Night.  What exactly are you trying to stave off?  Do you perceive a bias in favor of classics?

Don't misunderstand me, I liked Oil of Dog greatly. That one story got me to purchase a book containing the complete oeuvre of Bierce's short fiction. I also enjoyed Voice in the Night but not nearly so well. Much of last year's discussion came down to what was going to come in second to Oil of Dog. I think the discussion comparing a well aged classic to a modern story is less interesting than comparing all the modern stories (which are the preponderance here). Also, taking out the classic removes an easy choice, making individual moves more interesting.
