I don't mind repeats.  Makes me feel less crazy to know someone shares my preferences (occasionally).

How about this one: Lives was a decent story, and I like the father taking matters into his own hands for the good of humanity, and the ambiguity about whether or not some traits run in families, but the chainsaw seems a bit much, and why exactly does he think it will "stick" when fiery explosions do not.  I realize the horror is in the father's decision, but I think given the son's implied psychopathic lack of caring, it isn't much worse than putting down a rabid dog.  Now the protagonist of The Cord, on the other hand, well if you don't know you're doing anything wrong and you have to be put down, that seems somehow worse, for the confusion, and the perceived injustice.

I appreciate your logical connection between the two stories. I will follow-up on your move and salt the earth above Lives. However, I think I will make a different connection to the family trying to guide and protect the next generation in a more compelling and empathetically tragic manner. The mothers-to-daughters story is also full of unreliability, but I was able to empathize with the flaws and mistakes so much better. The characters in Lives were much less likeable.

I like the discussion, but I post before bed and almost fell asleep before doing this tonight, so I will post a longer explanation tomorrow. Got to vote by the clock though.

This move may be entirely related to how much attention I was able to devote to each of the stories. But dang it, I liked the Lovecraft homage more than the werewolf/gypsy's curse story.

Bit of a select group here now, innit? Where's everyone gone?

Anyway.

I'm gonna breath some life back into the Dead Hearts and take some away from the already dead Pageant Girls.

Well, I was thinking we'd do a few resurrections and point adds once the "Best of" poll goes up. Maybe a few more will jump in. I'm trying to hold myself to making moves after others, rather than myself. Otherwise, I'm told, I might go blind.

Anyway.

Pageant Girls is a creepy turn on the horrible things that parents do to their children. But I think what children do to each other is even worse.

Indeed. Let's take a point from one slow degradation of the mind and give it to another. I think Association does a more nuanced job of showing slowly losing oneself, making the horror very relatable and personal.

The little undead girls should be freed from their bondage and granted some peace. Across The Line and they never have to perform again.

I'm going to reverse your theme and take from weirdness and give to zombies. I actually made a recommendation of that story to a friend recently based on a discussion we had that went from abnormal psych to the psychological breakdown of communication. And zombies.

We're down to 13. Once we hit 10 resurrection will not be allowed.

That which is not dead may eternal collect points from other stories.

Not sure I can keep up with two of you on that. I will adjust to picking off things that may be good but I don't think are top 10 material.

Time to prune the Garden. It's been whispering through the vents to me.

FWIW, I didn't reverse your move, just redirected your damage.

...and here's me trying to talk up some conflict ;)

OK. Let's see...

Honestly, I'm surprised more folks aren't standing up for "Association". It hap a rippingly good response on the boards.

Sooooooo... Creepy Claus was rather unpleasant in several ways. I'd like to put that behind me. But more of the religious weird.

I think I'm being pretty subtle about my favourites ;)

I thought Association and Lights were both very strong zombie stories out of this year's slate. Lights was a very human story that makes post-apocalyptic fiction shine. Association was a fantastic analogy for psychological disorders and trauma recovery. It may be the strongest of all the zombie stories from 2011, but I'm not going to bail using a bucket with a hole in it.

And then there were twelve.

Well, you killed off one I should have done myself.

+1 to you.

But you gave one to one I should have attacked before.

-1 to you.

Bwahaha.

I guess that's what they all say
