The challenge was issued in
this poll thread to show folks that there’s a lot more material on the other two podcasts that will appeal to the listeners who gravitate towards one. By posting this, I am challenging the folks over here at EscapePod to make a similar list for both PseudoPod and PodCastle listeners. While you’re at it, add your opinions in this thread as to which stories I missed, and if you think I missed the mark on some of these.
I’ll admit, I mostly swim in PseudoPod’s murky waters. However, I’ve ventured out, sometimes on my own, sometimes on recommendation, and unearthed some significant gems. Theer are some of y’all that may prefer wandering around in SciFi and occasionally wandering into the dark. If EscapePod listeners want to spend a little more time staring into the abyss, I think you would benefit from the following:
PP018: Oranges, Lemons, and Thou beside Me: This is a beautifully written and effective character driven psychological horror story with an evocative setting.
PP019: Through the Many Corridors: An interesting take on messing with indigenous cultures on other planets.
PP033: The Sounds That Come After Screaming: A take on competitive fighting in the distant future.
PP098: Among the Moabites: Another round on messing with indigenous cultures.
PP110: Spurling’s Virus: A consideration with a good eye towards building tension and dread on how big organizations prepare for apocalypse viruses.
PP162: Suicide Notes, Written by an Alien Mind: More messing with indigenous cultures. Shades of Starship Troopers on a single campaign scale.
PP169: The Disconnected: Check out forum regular Unblinking’s story about our instant communication culture.
PP197: Set Down This: A consideration of the impacts of modern warfare.
PP200: Oil of Dog – The Horror of the Heights: Both are classic tales from master writers.
What Makes You Tick? From
PP 228: Flash on the Borderlands VII – Tableaux & Displays: Another entry from Unblinking that links alien experimentation with staring into the abyss.
