Years and years ago, I read a science fiction short story. A friend of mine is looking for it in order to reference it in a talk he's giving soon, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called or who wrote it. I'm hoping that someone can help me find it (Google has failed me thus far).
Here's the premise:
• Some guys make an AI.
• The AI goes a bit nuts.
• It decides to convert to Judaism.
• They call in a rabbi.
• Rabbi converts the AI to Judaism.
.• AI insists it's the messiah.
• Scientists decide to kill the AI.
• Before it dies the AI emails the rabbi a cure for his daughter's terminal metabolic disease.
• Curiosity and mystery...
Can anyone remember where this story is? It's got to be old. I read it years ago in an ancient copy of Analogue (or Asimov?) that I found in my high school library.
