Due to a recommendation by kibitzer, I got the first few books of the Cherub series by Robert Muchamore for my nephew a few years back. He loved them, so I read them too, and have been adding to his collection every since. Here's the first book synopsis: CHERUB spies, 17 and under, hack into computers, bug houses, download crucial documents, and Do Not Exist. James, recently orphaned, is their newest recruit, and brilliant in math. After 100 days grueling training, his mission begins.

I just recently re-read the beginning of the Myth series by Robert Aspirin, and they hold up remarkably well. I really enjoyed these growing up, and continue to as an adult. The first three are excellent and the fourth is rather good. I've made a goal for 2018 to read all the books I currently own (a substantial chunk of the 18-volume set) even the later books that are not as fondly considered.

All cat stories start with this statement: “My mother, who was the first cat, told me this...”
