Title: Chicago
Post by: SFEley on September 20, 2007, 05:00:53 AM
I'm going to be in Chicago for five days at the end of October/beginning of November.

Is there anything I should do there?  Any sights I can't miss?

Anyone want to have a beer or some Scotch?

Chicago!  How come everyone else gets to go to the awesome places.

Steve-

May I suggest Harey Carey's to have dinner at.  It's a little pricy but really good.

The pizza's good.

I've had the pizza.  Seven years ago, when Worldcon was in town.

For seven years I've been wanting to have it again, but alas, since then I've only been in Chicago for one day, and the restaurant we picked for lunch did not have proper deep-dish pizza as we had anticipated.

So that's an item on the list.  Thanks, Russell.

Everywhere I post people think I'm trying to start a fight.  I'm really only doing it in the everyone against me thread.

Restaurant Phone: (312)-664-1707
Fax Line: (312)-664-7444

In my opinion the best pizza in chicago can be found at Pizano's

61 E Madison St
Chicago, IL 60603

Right off Michigan Ave...close enough to Grant Park to give you something to do afterwards.

I've only been once, for a long weekend (I hope to be there more often soon, as my parents just moved to Chicago and are in a really cool neigborhood), so I can't say too much specifically, but I can say:  Eat.  The food is fantastic, from the high-end joints to the street stands and bar food.  In my four days there in August I had three of the best meals I've had in the past year.

I'm jealous.

Also, there's a fantastic Mexican restaurant that I can't think of the name of right now that is to die for.  I will try and remember to ask next time I'm on the phone with the folks.  It's middle-to-high end, with a rotating menu that really has the feel of something the chef has put heart and soul into.  And they have amazing margeritas that they shake at your table.  I strongly recommend the fried grasshoppers as an appetizer, too.

I'm a big fan of that town.  I proposed to my wife in the middle of the skating rink in Millenium park.  Unfortunately, it was right after someone else did the same thing for the TV show "a perfect proposal".  My thunder was slightly stolen....

I would suggest Gino's pizza if you're into some Chicago style pizza.  The place is a little dumpy and the service wasn't great but the food was awesome.
