Dungeons and Dragons

Strewth, I find this movie not so horrible as to be placed amongst the others in this list! A duel sirrah, or I'll have your honor discarded.

/Have to do something different for the second time around.

If it doesn't belong, people won't vote for it.  I didn't see it, because it looked really bad.

You know, I want to say something about how horrible casting Marlon Wayans as comic relief in a high fantasy movie is, but he was pretty good in Requiem for a Dream.  So maybe I can't blame him.

I don't know, man, I just couldn't get into it.  At one point I turned it off because something else came up and then realized, I had absolutely no desire to finish watching it.  The characters were boring and 2-dimensional, I've put up a memory block in my own head regarding the plot because it was so painful, the setting and costumes looked like they'd ripped off a bunch of other 80s fantasy movies.  This could've been a great movie, especially with the LOTR hype building, but it just felt lame to me at every turn.

That said, you're probably right.  I'm not sure I'd vote for it over Be Cool or Highlander 2 or Supernova.  (Well, probably over Highlander 2.)

Men In Black 2
Robin Hood, Prince of Theives (Hell, stole like 5 bucks from me)
Wolf

Dungeons and Dragons was awful, but was partly redeemed by some realy cool CGI sequences.

There are, of course, truly awful movies I love, such as Barbarella.

Those two weren't good, but I wouldn't call them horrible.

Superman III was pretty awful.
I stand by my nomination of Robin Hood.  Kostner was easily the worst Robin Hood in the history of Robin Hoods.  I could really go on about this one, but I think I'm way out on the fringe here.

I didn't say the Robin Hood was anywhere near good.  I just said it wasn't anywhere near as bad as anything by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Nominations so far:
Armageddon
AvP (Alien vs. Predator)
Battlefield Earth
Be Cool
Catwoman
Dungeons and Dragons
Highlander 2
Jaws: the Revenge
King Arthur
Men In Black 2
Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves
star trek 5

I saw Prince of Thieves when I was in 5th grade and loved it.  Maybe I was an idiot back then, I don't know.  People always bitch about Waterworld, too, but I don't get it.  It wasn't great, sure, but I didn't think it was the worst thing ever.  However, I absolutely HATED the Postman.

But hey, put it on the poll :)

I don't think you were an idiot.  I liked it too.  When I watched it again, things started to stick out.  I never got the hate for Waterworld either.  Seemed OK to me.
As for Jerry Bruckheimer, I agree, although Beverly Hills Cop was good.

I didn't include that one only because it was so easy to see in the trailers it was horrible.  It was almost like they admitted it sucked.

I would add "Red Sonja" Chris Rock's "CB4" but I would be surprised if anyone had seen them.

I remember them saying, that the best thing about the movie was that Brigette Nielson was so bad, she made it look like Schwarzennegger could act.

I've seen Red Sonja.  I wish I hadn't, but I have.  I put it along with Supergirl and Sheena: Queen of the Jungle (http://i.imdb.com/Icons/poster_under_licence.gif) as movies with female heroes made before Hollywood had a clue how to do it well.

Oh, and I know Batman & Robin got nominated before the data loss.  That really needs to be in the running.

I would submit that Superman IV (the one where Superman learns that trying to stop nuclear war is bad) would be much more deserving of being on a 'worst movie poll' than Superman III.

Superman 3 should get a pass because without it we'd never had have Office Space.

I found this on IMDB
Quote
Arnold Schwarzenegger himself eschews this movie as one of his worst, yet he (laughingly) claims that it's an excellent disciplinary tool for his children: "I tell them, if they get on my bad side, they'll be forced to watch ‘Red Sonja’ ten times in a row. Consequently, none of my kids has ever given me much trouble."

I love movies.  So when I moved to Japan I was happy that most of the movies were American movies with Japanese subtitles.  I would try to go every week.  But one movie ticket in Japan costs about $15, and when I saw Die Hard 3 one week and then Batman and Robin the next, I decided my expensive habit wasn't worth it.

I never saw Sheena, but I have a soft spot for it.  It was one of the first PG-13 movies.  You could show boobies in a PG-13, and I was 13.  And this was at a time when there were boobies in EVERY R-rated movie, so I figured odds were excellent that Sheena would show off her set.  I could go and see boobies, and there wasn't a damn thing anyone could do about it.  Somehow I never went, though.  What do boobies look like, anyway?

Apparently, Tanya Roberts who played Sheena, also played Donna's mom on That 70's Show.

You can blame the lack of boobies in current movies on Walmart.  They actually have a policy that DVDs with nudity will either not be stocked or be put in an "adult only" area.  Since they are the single largest seller of DVDs in the US, moviemakers leave out the boobies so DVD sales don't get hurt.

Walmart doesn't have a problem with exploding heads.  This is a major part of the reason violence has increased in films so much.  I'd rather have my kids see the boobies.

Ugh.  I don't think Pearl Harbor was the worst movie I've ever seen but it was AWFUL (and I actually think Affleck is alright in general).  What really annoyed me was that I was teaching high school at the time, and all the kids came in after the weekend talking about how totally awesome it was.  I think the lesson plan took a serious backseat that day.

Funny, I was just thinking about this.  I was in a video store that had a gigantic porn area sectioned off behind a curtain.  After browsing for several hours, I came out into the area for normal movies, and it was all guns and zombies.   The smiles and boobs are hidden behind a curtain, and the guns and zombies are out in front.  Weird world.

What does Walmart do with Titanic?  Is there a de-boobed version?  Personally, while Wartmart is without a doubt a factor, I think the de-boobification started before their rise to power.  Something about the objectification of someone or something.  I just remember realizing one day, "Hey, where are all the extraneous boobies in R-rated movies?  You mean I have to actually get a girlfriend?!"

Am I allowed to say "any soft porn ever recorded"? Because the sheer body of work in this genre HAS to eclipse everything else.

The idea is to go after work from major studios and directors.  Stuff that had the budget and "talent" to be something better than the piece of shit they put into the theater.

OK, The polls are closed to further nominations.  We have 27 films.  I'm going to do 5 polls (2 of 6 films and 3 of 5 films).  The winner of each poll will go into the final poll.  If there are any ties, both films will advance to the final poll.

I will start a new poll every 5 days or so and each poll will run for a week.  The final poll will go up within a day of the completion of the first round.

The animated Lord of the Rings?

Was that a theater release or a TV thing?
Title: Re: Nominations for the worst movie film poll
Post by: Ocicat on November 28, 2007, 01:03:23 AM
I don't know if it qualifies as a worst movie really, but it was well worth forgetting.  The animated Lord of the Rings (http://imdb.com/title/tt0077869/) was a Ralph Bakshi film, and only covered the first two parts.  There was a later TV movie of Return of the King that Bakshi wasn't involved with, but was supposed to be the sequel to it anyway.

Overall, it's flawed but did really try.  If the proper sequel had been made it might have even been well remembered by some...
