Title: BitTorrent Collections
Post by: SFEley on January 05, 2007, 02:53:53 AM
I need to get a link to this on the main site, but in the meantime, I thought folks might like to know that you can download just about all of Escape Pod and Pseudopod via BitTorrent:

Credit for the idea and initial setup goes to Manzabar.  My intent is to periodically update these and post new torrents once a month or so.

Of course, you can also buy Escape Pod collections from PodDisc.com (http://PodDisc.com) and get great-looking CDs, and we'll have a Pseudopod collection up soon as well.  It's the same content either way.  Buying the discs helps to support us, but if you just want to catch up with our archives and do it fast, BitTorrent is a good free way to do it.

I actually had the thought of making a torrent of all the episodes I have lying around (which is all of the ones released, I hope) - but you evidently got there before me.

As long as it got done, which is the main issue anyhow.

Done.  Anyone else who needs an invitation code, let me know.

(At least until I move these to a public tracker, which I need to do soon.)

An invite would be nice! I tried downloading an old, old version from a public tracker about a  week ago, but the seeds left :(

REALLY would like an invite. I promise to leave the torrent up (since it's legal)! I've been gleaning my collection sort of through various means (Escape Archive, too) but then I hate the id3 changes and whatnot. I just want to delete everything before #86 and have everything again.

The ID3 changes are taken care of by the PodPress plug-in thingy I use in WordPress on Escape Archive. EA isn't really meant to be updated forever though - the way I envisioned people using it was that they'd subscribe, get all the eps up to the point that their EP feed starts, and then unsubscribe from EA.

Just out of curiosity, isn't Bit-Torrent basically the same as a P2P program? If so, why not go on limewire, Bearshare, and others to put a small sample of EP - maybe a flash piece (after getting permission from the author, of course) - then at the end say "Download Escape Pod".

A whole new audience!

Go for it, Startrekwiki.  There's no need to get anybody's permission -- you can share the entire Escape Pod collection with anyone you want for free.

If it matters, I've been trying to add ones to a web-based "Bit-torrent" called Imeem. Although, there seems to be an EP fan there, as well as myself. :) But, actually, that's not a bad idea. If, going by the iTunes way of getting you 'casts into mp3, potentially, you could get EP episodes that were before you came to listen!

I'm seeding the first 60 or so on Mininova and since it's by far the biggest thing I've ever downloaded the lack of leechers is playing havoc with my share ratio.  Please download if you are missing any. :)

While not in BT form, I use SoulSeek, and share my entire podcast directory.

I could use a invite code, if you would.  Or direct me to another source

I'll do it.  I'm in the process of pillaging the site for back episodes and standardizing the filenames and tags (most don't need any work, and Banshee handles the rename) anyway.  I'll use Nyaatorrents because they're public and I don't need to register to use them, unless someone has a better suggestion, or if there is a strenuous objection from our overlords.  I'll let someone else handle the flash episodes and such.

Ok - done with the librarian part.  I'll parcel it into year (or 6 month) episode chunks and post the first torrent sometime in the next few days.  I'm contemplating doing the Flash episodes as well, but they're.... not as consistently numbered.  It slightly offends the little librarian in me, and I may do them sometime, but reading through several years of blog to assign numbering to them would be tiring, and possibly not worth it if it's only for my benefit - anyone know of a way to get the blog to display all the entries on a single flat page?

My current format is below.  I'm not currently including track numbers, but I may be convinced to.  I've made Steve the 'Album Artist' to help itunes and other programs see escape pod as a single album.

I'm going to leave the EPxxx: header in the Track Title, but any other changes that can be more or less automated...I'll consider - like adding the year to each track.

you mean all the flash entries on one page?
this? http://escapepod.org/category/podcasts/flash/
or do i have your question all wrong...? (entirely possible)

tho as for every single entry on one giant web page, that you cannot do.

anyway it's awesome what you are doing!  right on.

OK.  I've made some adjustments on the Tag settings.  I'll try and have the first half of 2006 withing the week.

Hopefully this works...

Is there a semi-current torrent?  Any reason to not publish one for a public tracker so people don't have to ask for demonoid account?
