We made about a gallon of it from just three trees this year. Our part of southern New Hampshire has a short sugaring season though. Next year's plan is to tap at least five trees. I dunno if loving real maple syrup makes you anything more than a good judge of stuff to put on pancakes. The real stuff really beats the pants off the corn syrup based products. And it's SOOOOOOOOOOO EAAAASYYYYYYYY to make, I can't believe they sell quarts of the stuff for $20.

I have never heard of this "Old Country Buffet". From the name, I'm guessing it's something like Cracker Barrel? I do like their food, though I don't think I could eat ten pounds of anything in one sitting. Well, except chocolate* of course.
I don't shop at Wal*Mart, for a whole host of reasons. I'd not call it a boycott because that implies a change of shopping habits, and I've never shopped there. And it simply never occurs to me to go there rather than some slightly more expensive but less exploitative retailer...
*For the record, Hershey's is not chocolate, but some kind of tasteless brown grit.

I have never heard of this "Old Country Buffet". From the name, I'm guessing it's something like Cracker Barrel? I do like their food, though I don't think I could eat ten pounds of anything in one sitting. Well, except chocolate* of course.
I don't shop at Wal*Mart, for a whole host of reasons. I'd not call it a boycott because that implies a change of shopping habits, and I've never shopped there. And it simply never occurs to me to go there rather than some slightly more expensive but less exploitative retailer...
Old Country Buffet, in this area at least, is a large all-you-can-eat restaurant with all kinds of types of food just sitting there for you to eat until you explode. It is a human hog trough. And like Russell inferred, most of the food is rather bland.
I'm with you on Wal*Mart. I'm not up on their sins, but the ones around here are always messy and crowded and shopping there is not a decent experience.

Not surprisingly, there are several large chains in the States that follow the feed trough model. Cracker Barrell, however isn't one of them. I can think of Sizzler, Golden Coral, Carl's, maybe some others. Yes, they are truly hideous. The Shoney's chain specializes in the breakfast version of the feed trough.
