Laurence Simon has a great podcast for some interesting writing training called the 100 Word Stories Podcast.
Every week theres a challenge topic (this weeks is "the Chair") and everyone submits a story of exactly 100 words, no more, no less.
When you send it in you suggest a topic, and if you win, your topic is next week's challenge. Stories are due by Friday at midnight, either produced, or just the writing, and he'll perform them for you.
Then everyone gets to vote, choosing all of the stories they think deserve a vote. It's a very cool system and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to practice writing. It's a great way to find words and phrases you use that are unnecessary.

I'd love to see some more Sci-Fi on there, since quite a bit is humor or slice of life. ;D
