Hey all! I'm hoping to start up a podcast in the not-too distant future. Since I know some of you here have your own podcasts, I was hoping you could offer me some advice on where to find opening/closing music for my show. I'm trying to search the Podsafe Music Network, but the site is so HUGE and there are so many artists on it, it's a bit overwhelming. Do you all have any suggestions for me?

The music at Magnatune (http://www.magnatune.com) has some pretty sane licensing for podcasts, and you can listen to the music for free. I think the theme music on PodCastle comes from a Magnatune band.

I'd also recommend checking out www.jamendo.com.

Very cool. Thanks for the tips!

I also plan to start a podcast after I finish my job search (ssh... don't tell anyone...) and I've already secured rights to all Wizard Rock by "Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls" by e-mailing the guy who does the music and asking permission. He has given it, provided I attribute him and give a URL. If you know a small artist who might want some exposure, contact him/her and ask permission. The worst they can do is say no.

You might also find some music at www.jamendo.com or www.icompositions.com - both sites have mostly unknown artists but there's some great music out there by people that are mostly unknown.

you'll have to change your name. Yakker maybe.

I'll probably use my real first name.

If you fancy that old time crackely snappy poppy 1920s bluesy sound you could try Archive.org (http://archive.org)
