Some time ago, one of my more odd friends took an unofficial, impromptu poll amongst his friends, asking the question above. While a majority went with one answer, I was actually surprised that anyone went with the other answer (one of whom was my wife). It was interesting to hear the "why's" each person stated for their answer. And a few people actually changed their votes after hearing other people's reasoning, so I left that option available in this poll. I naturally thought that posing this question to this crowd would generate creepy, interesting and hilarious conversation. :)

People with animal heads are mythic. They've been used as depictions of the gods for millennia (most famously by the Egyptians), and people have generally seen such depictions quite frequently. It's hard for me to think of such a chimera as being disturbing rather than reverential.
Animals with people's heads, on the other hand, are just creepy.
Or were you thinking of a human body with a dog's head and a dog's mind? That might be a little more disturbing, but as it would have difficulty mastering bipedal locomotion, it would be easy enough to evade that it wouldn't be scary.

A lot of kids, I think, wish the reverse were true... that their dogs had the mental capacity of humans (and the ability to speak).
Then there's this. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0739401947/escapepod-20)

Completely agree!! :shiver:
In the original move The Fly, the scene where the detective found the fly was more disturbing than anything else in any remade version of the movie, imo.

The original intent of the question was a dog's head and mind, but, after that question came up, it was left open for interpretation.

Animals with people's heads aren't unheard of. The sphinx, the manticore, and the harpy come to mind.

I question your use of "disturbing," sir :) They both seem perfectly fun to me!

True. And all of those are evil monsters that eat people.

Well, while you're playing fetch with your man-headed dog or discussing physics with your dog-headed man, or vice versa, I'll be over in the corner in my happy place, making sure I've got a headstart on you when they revert to their true nature and try to eat you. :D

"a person with a dog's head"? That's not disturbing, until ...
UNTIL YOU TURN IT INTO A GUITAR!!!!

That's tough to pick. I keep thinking of that scene from Mars Attacks where the Martians swap Sarah Jessica Parker's head with her Chihuahua. They were both pretty creepy. Especially since the dog's body couldn't hold up her huge head, so it just sort of dragged it along. That's why I went with human head on dog.

I guess I'm just accustomed to the idea of werewolves, Star Trek alien head-pieces, and such-like.
But I'm not used to this kind of freakishness:

Well, Sarah Jessica Parker's pretty creepy looking anyway. *grin*

I wouldn't go so far as to call her "creepy looking". But like Julia Roberts, she is far from being the beauty that some people seem to think she is.

LOL. The dad on Family Guy said that Sarah Jessica Parker's head looks like a shoe
I know...a Family Guy reference from the guy who just posted about choosing to avoid questionable media. I didn't say I always succeeded. Actually, I've probably only watched a total of five episodes of Family Guy. I have watched a lot of Simpsons, though.

If I had to choose one, I'd probably go for Roberts, though.

That was kind of where I was going with the whole thing. Of course, FG also said that Ted Danson's head is an overhang under which Mary Steenburgen can shelter when it rains. So, you know, grain of salt. ;D
