Please give your vote on the poll and also tell us why you like (or dislike) each character and why you picked one over the other.
For some reference, here are a couple links:
Mork (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbEBErvW-Uc&feature=related) and Alf (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9ROoPynGFM)

You know, when I saw the poll title I thought, 'I hope they don't have both Mork and Alf, because I won't be able to choose between those two.'
Then I find they're the only options. Damn you... damn you all to HECK!
-
Okay, okay. I chose Mork, but because of what Robin Williams was able to do. I mean, he managed to take an abortive attempt at shark jumping (yes, I'm fully aware of where the term comes from) and spin it off into a not so bad show. Oh, and then go on to become one of the funniest people in show biz.
Alf was good---nay, great---but he just didn't seem to get the longevity. He did come back in pog form for a while, but Milhouse van Houten was the only one who seemed to care.
-
It seems to me his is an incomplete poll. WHat about the cast of third rock from the sun? If it wasn't Sunday morning, I'm sur I could come up with a dozen more.
Maybe we should open this to nominations and then start again.
-
I nominate "Uncle Martin" - My Favorite Martian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Favorite_Martian)
-
It certainly wouldn't be either of those two.

I added Uncle Martin
I aslo threw in The Great Gazoo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Gazoo) (he wasn't the star of the show, but he was on a sitcom).
Are there any others? Remember I limited it to aliens from a sitcom.
-
Aww! Uncle Martin. I fell in love with Bill Bixby because of that show. I think I was about 8 and watching syndicated re-runs.
-
Swamp, don't forget that every time you update the poll, it will clear the results.
-
I didn't check the box that will clear the votes. It seems to have kept them.

Must be a new feature of the upgrade Steve did a while ago.
-
But now I can't change my vote to one of the new options...
-
Still haven't added the cast of Third Rock.

I haven't got any in mind to offer up; sorry. I just know that I wouldn't vote for ALF or Mork.
-
But now I can't change my vote to one of the new options...
I thought their was an option for this, but don't see it now. Maybe it was only an option when creating the poll. Anybody have any suggestions?
-
I added the Solomon's from 3rd Rock.
-
It may be a little more obscure for the Americans amongst us, but what about Thermoman from My Hero (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Hero_(TV_series))?
-
How many sitcom aliens are there?
I still had to go with Mork... but I suspect if I gave 3rd Rock a chance, I might change my mind. ALF was mildly amusing when I was 13... and then a kid in my class got obsessed with it.
There are only so many times you can hear someone shout about eating cats before it's just not funny any more.

Was it ever funny?
I suppose if I had to choose between ALF and Mork, I choose Mork. But I'd rather abstain.
-
It's a shame that Saturday Night Live doesn't count as a "sitcom", or I'd go with The Coneheads.

And hey, if the Muppets counted as a sitcom, then Gonzo gets in on a technicality!

I thought Gonzo was some kind of terrestrial bird. What evidence is there that he's alien?
-
Gonzo was shown to be an alien in the movie Muppets from Space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muppets_from_Space)
I'm tempted, but I don't think he qualifies.
-
So far my choice is uncle Martin, but I'm waiting to see what else might get added.
-
Alf has my vote, because he's the only one I ever saw in my youth. I knew the theme music by heart!
I did manage to find yet another sitcom alien: Dink from the series Quark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark_(TV_series)) (see below, in the weird 'attachment' box I entered in this post and I don't know how to get rid of it ;P )
I just found an episiode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pqLjOg0hwo) online, looking for aliens in sitcoms (there really aren't that many sitcoms with aliens in it!).
The show has great over-acting and even better humor (though that's a personal thing).
-

you seem to loose the option once the poll has changed, i've had problems with this too. the only way around it seems to be to wipe the poll so that everyone has a chance to reselect.
btw, if Gazoo counts then Orbity (http://www.tvacres.com/aliens_orbity.htm) prolly does too.
edit: strange to realize that red dwarf never had a reoccurring alien character since the cat was descended from earth.

Lister's wife turned up a couple of times.
-
Had to go with Martin. Can't stand Robin Williams, every time I see him in something I get physicaly ill. My wife loves him so his mug is on our TV way too often. Blech!!

I added Dink to the poll. In the linked episode of Quark, you don't see Dink until about 6:40 into the clip. I had no idea about this show. Cool.

I liked Robin Williams until he quit cocaine. Apparently he isn't funny without it. :-\

there's Zoidberg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Zoidberg), also Nibbler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nibbler_(Futurama))

I added Zoidberg, Nibbler, Thurmoman, and Orbity.
I had no idea there were so many sit-com aliens. I thought by limiting it to sitcoms, there would be only a few. I missed some obvious ones like Uncle Martin and the Solomons from 3rd Rock. I had a specific purpose for my poll, but it has expanded into something more. That's the beauty of this forum.
I was wondering if I should reboot the poll (reset the votes) to allow everyone a change to vote with the whole list (as N_sh suggested earlier). Any objections?
-
When you reset, I think it would be fairer if all of the characters from Third Rock were listed separately. I sound like a big fan of the show, but I don't think I ever watched it more than twice.
-
I would approve of a reset.
-
Okay, I have reset all the votes. Please revote now that we have a more complete list.
-

You've got a bunch of doubles in the list.

Recall! Recall!
Repoll! Repoll!
;D ;D ;D

I started a new poll here (http://forum.escapeartists.info/index.php?topic=1837.msg32269#msg32269). Sorry for the confusion.
