Title: About Movies
Post by: wintermute on July 29, 2008, 10:43:22 AM
I understand that some people here enjoy movies, so feel free to help me out with a little survey, if you have the inclination.

Thanks.

Okay, I did it, but I had to abstain on most of them because there were only about three or four where I'd seen both films.  Otherwise I said which film I'd seen (or that I'd seen neither), but don't count that as a vote because I can't make a truly informed choice.

I pounded through it.  I've seen more movies than I thought.  My wife and I have different tastes so I see a lot of movies I wouldn't normally rent.

Wow, I need to see more movies. There were only two pairs where I saw both. And those two were Clue/Clueless, and Get Smart/Get Shorty.

Heh. Most (but not all) of those are from my library.

So far, I'm surprised at the total lack of love for The 400 Blows. Is no-one a fan of French New-Wave?

Darwinist, you need to see Get Shorty :)  It might be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

Yeah, I have a buddy that is after me to see it.  Will check it out.  Somehow that one fell through the cracks, like The Big Lebowski, which I finally saw in 2008.

I thought it was one of the most pointless movies I'd ever seen.

You have clearly never seen The Bicycle Thieves.

But The 400 Blows, and indeed the whole Antoine Doinel saga, is one of my favourite movies.

It's part of a series?

Five movies: The 400 Blows, Antoine and Colette, Stolen Kisses, Bed & Board, Love on the Run.

You can get the box set here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008H2GR/escapepod-20), though I somehow doubt you will.

Your doubt is well-founded.  Though if The 400 Blows were a porno, I might think differently  ;D

That's what it always sounded like to me

Oh, I just saw this and I think I have actually seen 12 of those combinations, not bad ha? But if I get started on trying to pick which ones I liked better and explaining why I'll be here next week, or next month rather. Just making that decision could send me into a deadly loop I won't get out of. (That is why I had to ignore some of the Film Polls, drove me mad.) Sorry, WM.
