I did this at work today... for the next four days, we'll be letting people vote on their favorite fictional president, and then 8/28 - 9/2 they vote for one of the four "primary" winners.
I had to dumb it down a bit for our audience -- very few people from books on the list -- but you might still get a kick out of it.

Ok, it may be dumbed down to just TV and movies, but considering this audience of Sci-fi geeks how could you not have...
Henry Hayes (Stargate SG-1)
Laura Roslin (Battlestar Galactica)
But I'm sure you'll get a lot of "why didn't you have so-and-so" responses...

I had Hayes and Roslin on there in the beginning of each day they would've been on (Hayes on Friday, Roslin on Monday), but after a little thought I realized they wouldn't resonate with our audience.
There are a couple of sci-fi ones coming up... Nixon (Futurama) and Winston Noble (F451) for starters...
There's four days of voting, too... today, tomorrow, monday, and tuesday.

If I were a betting man, which I'm not because I'd suck at it, my money would be on Bartlet. That being said, the presence of David Palmer on there (To say nothing of the fact that he clearly manipulated the events of 24 season 5 so he could return to his previous job as Sergeant Major Jonas Blane of the 303rd Logistical Studies Group) may make it a close race.
-
Best: President Lindberg (The Fifth Element)
Worst: The sappy cad from Independence Day.

My money's on James Marshall ("Air Force One"). I know my audience. :)
Best: President Lindberg (The Fifth Element)
Worst: The sappy cad from Independence Day.
I think I had to take Lindberg out due to not enough people knowing about him. Widmore (ID4) is in there on Tuesday, but he's up against Arnold Schwarzenegger (Simpsons Movie) and E.G. Marshall (Superman II), so if everyone here votes for those guys, Widmore should be defeated.

DOH! Next time I'll read the link provided before posting a choice that wasn't even on the list. Sorry about that.

I just wanted to point out Arnold was also mentioned in "Demolition Man" as a past president, and had his own presidential library and constitutional amendment.

Nah, it's okay, don't worry about it.

Morgan Freeman it is for me, although with him I guess it is charisma more than anything that was the deciding factor.
I know, I know, and people like me have the right to vote, disgusting, ha? (not in the US though, ... I mean I can't vote in the US, not that it isn't disgusting in an American context)

Well, exercise your right to vote tomorrow, too, with our next seven candidates! :)
(Can you see I'm trying to drum up traffic with a primed audience? I knew that MA in Communication would come in handy for something.)
-
i'm in the middle of rewatching the west wing. kinda made my decision for me.
-
Best: President Lindberg (The Fifth Element)
Almost a non-entity; hardly even five total minutes of screen time in the entire movie. Before now, I didn't even know his name (and that's my favorite movie and I've seen it about a dozen times.)
-
Dave :)
(From Dave)
He's got my vote! I love how he rolled up his sleeves and really worked the budget.

No Zaphod? Being galactic president should count for something.
I voted for Freeman, at least then all of the state of the union addresses would sound awesome.

Well, Zaphod is a little TOO obscure for our audience, but it looks like I _did_ leave in President Lindberg.
Seven new choices are up today... http://www.11alive.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=120158&catid=40

There was a movie version.... *sulk*
I don't know why I should be surprised, but I thought Kline would give Ford a bit more of a challenge than he is.

Think of where the station is located, and then tell me a president who kicks ass won't kick the ass of a president who was nice and friendly. ;D
-
nitpick: the fifth element had a federation president not a us president. independence day would have been a better choice.
tell me a president who kicks ass won't kick the ass of a president who was nice and friendly. ;D
that's why you should vote for a wrestler/actor whenever possible.

Well, Widmore appears on Tuesday in the fourth ballot. Just sayin'.

James Marshall (Harrison Ford, "Air Force One")
or
Palmer
gets my vote

Well, you can vote for Marshall until about 9am tomorrow, then Palmer for 24 hours (no pun intended) after that.

Woulda been a write-in vote for me for Jefferson Smith (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Smith_Goes_to_Washington). :)
<edited to clarify which Jefferson Smith>
-
id go with whoever was the original black president in 24, the guy who got shot, not his brother
-
But Smith never became President. He was just a junior senator.
-
I know... but I'd still vote for him.
-

I really thought he would do well, but the day of his primary, we also had Michael Douglas (The American President) and Jack Ryan (Tom Clancy novels). Palmer came in second -- Ryan was his Nader.
The winner, btw, was Harrison Ford (Air Force One) in a landslide.
Our St Louis station did the poll too and the winner there was Michael Douglas with 11,000 votes.

His name was Andrew Sheppard/Shepherd.
