Title: Dear Cubs
Post by: Zathras on October 05, 2008, 05:15:28 AM
Dear Cubs,

Again you break my heart. I didn't give up on you when you went down 0-2 at home to the Dodgers. I kept hoping. For as long as I can remember, you've been nearly as important as my family and friends. Truthfully, you've been more important than most people in my life. I've withstood the ridicule of Cardinal fans, White Sox fans and people who aren't even baseball fans.

The Red Sox broke their curse and won TWO recent World Series. The Tampa Bay Rays were in last place last year, and appear to be on their way to the ALCS. The Brewers won the wild card and are still alive in the playoffs.

What do you give me in return? NINE straight playoff losses. You are the first team eliminated from the playoffs this year. I tried not to get my hopes up, but again you fool me.

What did I do to you? I buy your merchandise. I subscribed to XM just so I could hear your games. My 7 year old daughter has fallen under your spell, as well. At least my 5 year old escaped your clutches. She will have her own issues with the Angels.

Don't worry, though. I will be here for you come spring. I will again fall for your lies. I will lie to my family and friends to cover for your abusive treatment of me. I will wear sunglasses to cover my red eyes.

I still need you. I know I should leave you, but I will stay and be your door mat.

Tearfully yours,

Jason

Sorry, man.

I thought this would be the year they would get over the hump but it was the same old crap.  I was hoping for an NL Central NLCS but both teams tanked it.  The Brewers haven't done jack since I was in high school in 1982 and Milwaukee hasn't won the WS since 1957, not as painful as your run but it is getting old up north on I-94.

Oh well, pitchers and catchers report in ~22 weeks.

Are you suggesting there's a sport that wouldn't be improved by the addition of robots?

Syncrhonized swimming?

This is the 2000th thread?  Lovely.  I bet that's an omen of some kind.  :'(

I suppose that depends on what you think would "improve" synchronised swimming:

1) Technical excellence and perfect synchronisation: It's pretty obvious that robots with inbuilt atomic clocks and bluetooth connections would be far better at this than humans.

2) Lots of fire and explosions, ending with the competitors piled up lifelessly at the bottom of the pool: Just don't bother waterproofing the robots, et voilĂ ...

Noooooo!!!!!  Next you're going to tell me that they'll use some sort of instant replay to make sure the umps get the right call.

Baseball is an anachronism and that is one of it's beauties.

I just can't stand baseball unless I'm sitting in the stands.  Then it's really cool.

My favorite way to enjoy baseball is to park the car next to a field, turn on the AM radio and listen to the broadcast.

Unless you're Bartman at Wrigley.   :'(

Can we let the whole Bartman thing go, already.  I mean, WE IMPLODED THE FREAKIN BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I felt so bad for the guy.  You're at the playoffs, and here comes a souvenier, and well, a millionaire throws a temper tantrum.

I think I'm going to open a business.  You want your team to win?  Hire me to root for their opponents!

What baseball need is more rocket launchers...
