I've been thinking about doing this for a few weeks, but now that the debates are over and for the most part opinions have gelled, he's an anonymous poll of who you're voting for.
I think we can handle not having this topic locked, but for anyone wanting to throw stones about remember that I very nearly posted this stickied and locked instead of just stickied.
I know there's no CowboyNeal option for those contrarians among you, but this isn't really a time for silliness (of course, by saying that, I basically just yelled 'Commence the Silliness' in a room full of clowns).
Edit: We're too late for the Canadians, but if the Brits want I'll sticky a Labour vs. Conservatives vs. Green thread.

Would you prefer that non-Americans avoid voting? Or should we vote for who we would vote for were we American?
(Note that if we don't vote, we can't see the results either. So if you don't want non-American votes, could you at least add an "I'm not American" option so that we can at least see how this goes?)

I'm going to say vote, it's a census of the forums and I'd rather people not vote knowing how the numbers are at the moment.

Well, anyone who votes will know what the numbers are, regardless of what they vote for, and once they do they can't vote again, so adding an option won't change anything. But if it's ok for non-Americans to participate, then A - the problem is moot, and B - the poll is a foregone conclusion.
-
Also, should be noted Nader is Independent this year, Cynthia McKinney is the Green Party nominee

Fixed. If anyone wants anyone else (who is actually on the ballot) put on there they can PM me, but unless someone does I'm going to leave it at these four.

Yeah, I was thinking about the Economist's Global Electoral College (http://www.economist.com/vote2008/). Maybe we'll do two polls, one for everyone and one for just the Americans, though there's no way to stop people from voting in the Americans-only poll without my sweet talking Steve into getting ahold of IP logs and using those to kill global votes (and then cross-referencing for expatriates).

Heh. I never saw that before. But maybe there are a lot of Georgians, Macedonians, and Cubans lurking on the board ;)?

Knowing a fair number of Cubans, I have a hard time believing that number. It has to be due to the population skew from the limited net access, but I'm still not sure how that accounts for it.
-
I've already voted from Taiwan via absentee ballot. For what it's worth, Bob Barr does not appear on the Maine ballot but Cynthia McKinney does.
(Not that this affects my vote in any way.)
-
Already voted from Germany.
-
What are we voting for?
I don't recognize anyone on the poll.

I think it's American Idol.

And you'd still get non-Americans who live in America slipping through the cracks...

Woohoo! My candidate is in second place right now!!!!
-
Neither of my potential votes is on the list (the preferred being a write-in of "No Confidence"; failing that, a vote for the Green ticket of McKinney/Clemente.)

Heh. I was looking at no votes for anyone other than Obama, and I thought "I bet Zathras hasn't voted yet..."

At least one forumite is chanting, "Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!"

Anybody object to me voting twice? It's not like a 3rd party has a chance, anyway...

I blame all of them. Well, except the Libertarians and the Greens. There's no way they could be that inept and not get caught. ;)

All voter registration drives are required by federal law to submit ALL registrations, even ones from Funky Chicken and Bugs Bunny.

I was just being silly. In truth, I'm very jaded with our two party system.

Actually, I picked up Yiddishisms from my best friend in kingergarden's mother about a decade and a half back, so it's not completely the change in place.

Well seeing as we're getting an election at some point in the next eighteen months, that might be kind of interesting:)
Also tedious and profoundly unsettling and rage inducing. Welcome to English politics. Want some tea?:)

I bash Republicans, too.
Sure. I was just pretty sure you weren't an Obama voter. I was also 80% sure that you weren't a McCain voter, either. If I'd had to pick, I'd have gone for Cynthia McKinley...

Please tell me you were joking. Ugg. Maybe I should write in Cthulu like I did in '96.
Thanks for the heads up on the Common Sense podcast. Don't know if I like his style yet, but I'm gonna listen to a few more episodes.

Senator McCain was in Albuquerque this morning, and Senator Obama will be in this evening. Makes me wonder if they are after me. ;D
It's too bad that both of them are wasting their time.

This seems like the right thread for a link to the Political Compass chart of the candidates (http://www.politicalcompass.org/uselection2008).
The disclaimers... Political Compass can only go by their assessment of the public policy statements of the candidates: it's not as if any of them submit their test results. Although separating the low-tax/high-spend axis from the personal-liberty/public-safety axis affords more flexible categorization than simply "right/left", there's still a fair amount of subjectivity in the analysis. The fact that the political center ground around which the candidates cluster around is not at the centre of the chart is not a Euro-pinko judgement on American politics -- check out the assessments of other Western democracies on the site and see how similar they are.
Those disclaimers and the reasons for them are better explained in the FAQ (http://www.politicalcompass.org/faq).
The fun thing to do (IMO) is to take the test yourself at Political Compass (http://www.politicalcompass.org/) and see how well your results match those of the various candidates. It takes 5-10 minutes depending on how long you spend considering the questions.

I did it a few years ago, if I remember correctly I was on the left but just barely authoritarian.

I think the economic part has me way too far left, but I don't think the social part is too far off. Of course my social score was mainly reflected in the words of Ronald Reagan, "Government should stay out of the bedroom." Of course as George Carlin noted Ronald Reagan didn't mind letting the government climb into a woman's uterus.

I don't trust this test. They had too many absolutes.
Hunh. Gonna have to learn how to post images now.

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.21

Hmmmm. Maybe the Drazi were on to something.

I remember the Drazi being abysmally stupid, and wondering how they ever became spacefaring. What aspect of their race/society did you have in mind?

Purple

Economic 6.75
Social 0.82
Pretty close though I think I would be a little farther right on the economic scale.

Green must fight Purple. Purple must fight Green. Is no other way!
Ah, yes ... that was where I first took notice of the Drazi, and came to the conclusion that they were a race of utter fucking morons. Nothing I saw during any subsequent part of the series helped to elevate my opinion of them.
Again, how did a people so hopelessly stupid ever develop the wheel, to say nothing of space travel?
