I've been playing this like a mad thing for weeks.

Check out what other people think at Board Game Geek, it's called Memoir '44 (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10630) and it's GREAT!

Why this as opposed to one of the hundreds of other war games?

Why this as opposed to one of the hundreds of other war games?

Because it's very good both for adults and kids, uses both stratergy and luck meaning you get to engage your brain and can still lose to the kids now and then.

Sweet.  I love board games, especially table-top war games, like Axis and Allies.  I'll have to give this a look.

If you're into that kind of thing, you'd probably love From Sun Tzu to Xbox: War and Video Games (http://www.amazon.com/Sun-Tzu-Xbox-Video-Games/dp/1560256818/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227506152&sr=8-1/escapepod-20), a history of the relationship between the real military and wargames of all kinds.  Lots of fascinating tidbits on games like Battle Zone that I actually remember playing in the arcade, as well as history going way back.
