So, after watching the trailer, I have zero interest in reading Personal Effects: dark art. But, I would be really glad to see more trailers for it... that was so wonderfully over the top that there is no way the book could live up to it.

The whole ARG part of it is kind of...off-putting to me, I guess. It'd be one thing if it was just slipped into the story, but instead, that's how Hutch is marketing the book. The story may be able to stand on it's own all by itself, but I think I might wait to hear if it passes that test from other people before I decide what I think of it.

The ARG aspect of it is a plus for me. Its probably the main reason I'm considering picking it up. I dig this kind of stuff.

As a marginally related aside, its really disorienting seeing a picture of someone you only previously knew for years by voice. :p

So it's horror? Really, really, scary horror? But I don't like horror. Shouldn't you post it in pseudopod?

But I like and admire all the people in the promo. I want to support them. If they think it's that good, shouldn't I buy it just to be supportive? but... it's horror?

alternate reality game.  It's also sometimes known as viral marketing.  it's when things from the book spill over into real life.  There is someone (I assume JC) posting on Suicide Girls that is linked to the book things like that.
